so many of the varied ways that SSFOA honors and recognizes, assists and advocates and one on one personal presentations of the Silver Star Service banner packages, amongst other SSFOA programs, as well.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Have thousands of volunteers, dedicated people and of course more funds on a regular basis to operate every vital program or awareness that the SSFOA has been involved in since 2004.

What is this organization's top short-term priority?
Being able to fund our vital programs and possibly being able to start and sustain new ones, as well. Funding, it is always funding that is needed to properly fund existing programs. We charge no fee for our free service(s) to those eligible that request and we have no paid board, volunteers and do not fund large production conventions for our membership.
What is its top priority in the long run?
ENDING Homeless Veterans and families, honoring and recoginizing each eligible recipient with the Silver Star Service banner package. seeing all combat wounded and ill Veterans treated with dignity and respect and the ability to make that difference where it is needed and deserved. Dedicated volunteers that take the preverbial bull by the horns and appreciation toward those special people that volunteer of there time and talents for the mission of the SSFOA.
I have enjoyed the SSFOA and having the ability to recognize so many of this sometimes overlooked population, especially our homeless Vets and Hospice/palliative care Vets in the V.A. hospitals nationwide. The special devotion the SSFOA also feels toward our Vietnam Vets, their struggles of coming home and now their struggles of getting the care they need within the V.A. hospital/op clinic as they are aging, now.
Presenting the silver star service banner packages in person in ceremonies and in one-on-one cases are more than rewarding for all concerned. Volunteering and serving in professional capacity for SSFOA has only increased my respect and awareness of the need for SSFOA and other non profits to help, honor, recognize, assist and advocate for our beloved troops and Veterans.

Too numerous facets to list. I have seen the SSFOA grow and expand and always on a shoe string budget. We have strong and mostly long lived volunteers whom nationwide, work hard on many SSFOA programs. It is always nice and appreciated that for a moderately sized non profit that the SSFOA has dedicated volunteers who reach goals and exceed expectations when honoring our combat wounded and ill troops and Veterans via SSFOA programs.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Ahhh, the old dreaded money topic; we (SSFOA) could always use more to reach even more military and Veterans that need us. So, funds are always in high demand and most of the donations go directly to SSFOA programs. It would be nice to garner some pro bono marketing and advertising folks to 'market our mission and programs'. Also more volunteers like the ones we already have, those with a heart for the mission and sincere dedication to accomplish our mission goals for those that need us.
