Over the past few years the third grade students of Carver have had the opportunity to visit the Jenney Grist Mill and take part in the walking tour. Our students investigate relevant historical information that directly correlates to our Carver curriculum, as well as the Massachusetts State Frameworks in both Social Studies and Science. Students are treated to a lively explanation of the experiences of the Pilgrims in 1620. They cannot help but to be riveted by Miller Martin's lively tales as he points out historic landmarks and features of his mill. The third grade team of teachers looks forward each year to our visit, using the trip to reinforce content taught, and often utilizing the experience to generate some wonderful writing in the classroom. This is one of our favorite field trip experiences in Carver, and the academic tie-ins make it an excellent learning experience for all of us!
