Review for AnimalKind, Inc., Raleigh, NC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

AnimalKind is providing wonderful services for the less fortunate animals and their people in North Carolina!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The low cost spay & neuter vouchers they give to poorer families to get their pets snipped!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Open a branch in every city.

Review for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Norfolk, VA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

PETA thinks that no people should have companion animals. Not only do they think that most cats & dogs should be killed in shelters, but they have their volunteers go out and do just that.
Remember the situation last year where several members picked up live cats & dogs in North Carolina and were caught stiuffing them into a dumpster after they killed them! (The shelter was told that PETA was interested in re-homing them.)

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Reading about the murder of innocents dogs & cats.

Role:  General Member of the Public & I have nothing to do with PETA, because I work with legitimate organizations to help save lives of animals.

PETA's position is often distorted. PETA is absolutely opposed to breeding. In U.S. shelters alone, up to 4 million dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are euthanized each year, simply because there aren’t enough homes for them. Given the astounding number of healthy and loving but unwanted animals, we believe that breeding more animals merely to satisfy the desire for a particular behavioral or physical trait is absurd. We do, however, encourage those who have the desire, time, and patience to take good care of an animal to rescue homeless strays or adopt animals from a shelter. In fact, most PETA staff members live with animals who have been rescued from abuse or abandonment. For more information on PETA's spay-neuter services and advocacy for dogs and cats, please see PETA's Annual Review at peta.org/annualreview or on guidestar

Review for The Humane Society of the United States, Washington, DC, USA

I dislike HSUS because: they do not sponsor any sanctuary directly, they are a lobbying group.
ALSO, they pay their executives far too much of my hard-earned money.
A half million dollars PLUS for a president who is so full of himself!???
One who CLAIMS to work for the benefit of the animals, yet befriends and speaks highly of a FELON. (Michael Vick, who did not serve enough time for his crimes.)

Nothing.

Give the money they WASTE to smaller local organizations that make real changes in animals' lives.

Hi MVMeehan - I work at the HSUS, and we do sponsor sanctuaries directly. We have several animal care centers, and run the nation's largest horse sanctuary, located in Oregon. As for finances, we spend over 77% on programs alone, ranging from stopping puppy mills to working to end wildlife abuse. I'd encourage you to check out www.humanesociety.org/about for more information on our animal care centers, which care for thousands of animals each year, as well as our finances.

Review for Best Friends Animal Society, Kanab, UT, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been a member supporting Best Friends for several years, and when I actually saw the work they do, it impressed me even more than their excellent publications.
All the animals are well-treated, healthy and socialized carefully. As a volunteer, I was taught the correct way to do some things I thought I knew.
My trip to see this sanctuary was the highlight of my vacation, and I hope to volunteer for them again--perhaps even long-distance!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Directing people to the possibility of making this a No-Kill Nation!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Open another location on the East Coast.

Review for Friskys Wildlife & Primate Sanctuary Inc, Woodstock, MD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is the most well-organized and well-run charity I have ever seen. The animals are all very well taken care of, and the place is clean and neat. Although I understand why the average person would want to have a wild animal as a "pet" it is the volunteers at Frisky's who have the full responsibility of taking care of them, when they eventually give them up. Frisky's is a truly spiritual sanctuary for wildlife and injured animals. The people there are very special.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The care of the animals brought to them by Animal Control officers and the public.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them more land and more money so they can be less stressed.

Will you volunteer or donate to this organization?

How much of an impact do you think this organization has?

Life-changing

How did you learn about this organization?

There were some negative reports in the local newspaper, saying the Sanctuary's NEW neighrbors objected to wildlife being rehabilitated there. All I knew was that the Sanctuary has been there for more than 20 years, and the NEW neighbor was trying to force them to give up the primates. Seeing the entire operation made me realize those neighbors are ignorant of the work being done there. This is a holy and sanctified place!
