What I want to do

Growing up in a fishing family in a small town north of Seattle, Elise learned how to gut fish before she could tie her own shoes. Life was lived outside climbing trees, working on fishing boats and treasure hunting on the shores of Puget Sound. The ocean has always played a vital role in Elise's life. Her love for the ocean has grown exponentially over the years. As a result, Elise pursued diving, learned to sail and took up paddling outrigger canoes, which eventually lead to her competing in the Waka Ama Aotearoa World Championships in New Zealand in 2006 against 24 countries. At 15 Elise graduated high school valedictorian and moved into other ventures including college. Not one to sit still for long, once out of school Elise travelled and worked her way around the country until she finally married and had her daughter. She lived aboard several boats for over 9 years travelling around Puget Sound, Hawaii and Oregon. During this time Elise worked for non-profit organizations such as The Pacific Whale Foundation, The Whale Museum, Ocean Futures, The Center for Whale Research and The Oregon Coast Aquarium conducting research and educating the public about whales. Eventually landing in Friday Harbor, WA, Elise raised her daughter while working on several documentary films about the resident Killer Whales (Orca) of The San Juan Islands. A self-taught fine artist, chef and gardener, Elise has discovered a love for painting murals and has embarked on trading a mural for a place to stay at friends’ homes around the world. The themes of her murals usually include the ocean. A multi-talented woman, Elise is known among her friends as "A go getter" If you need to find something, someone, get money for a project or find a job, Elise is the lady you call; she'll hook you up, just like Radar from M.A.S.H. Elise has chosen to strive, through action to manage the slow change that needs to take place to make a difference for the preservation of the worlds Ocean. To the best of her abilities Elise uses all the facilities available to her to create partnerships, awareness, advocacy and education through a variety of applications, introductions, projects and programs. Currently Elise and her daughter, Joselyn, live in the San Francisco Bay Area and she works as an assistant content editor for Google Earth, Ocean layer with the Sylvia Earle Foundation. Elise's motto: "Find Your PASSION and FOLLOW IT!". Elise has found hers and you will ALWAYS find her somewhere in, on, over, under or around the ocean. Elise works tirelessly to make a difference in the world, educating the public about the preservation of the Ocean. Take a moment and think.....just WHAT have you done today to make a difference...? And what will you do tomorrow? and the day after.....? and so on. It takes an effort EVERY day to shift the paradigm!!!!

I have worked with Christopher Chin and COARE over the past year around educating people about banning shark finning practices worldwide, plastic pollution and various ocean awareness projects.

COARE is an amazing company with an outstanding group of tireless advocates working towards the preservation of the oceans of this world. Christopher Chin is a multi-talented dedicated man I count myself lucky to know.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the programs, advocacy, and legislation I've been a part of and also in the people who have effected change in their lives because of the education received from COARE.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

NOT change a thing!
