LIGHTHOUSE INC

Lighthouse is doing the real work that most people just talk about.

It has been my great pleasure to be involved with this organization as a volunteer and a board member...I was compelled to continue to serve by the great need, the unique approach to meeting that need, and the incredible people that this organization brings together.

In a world full of requests for money, requests for time and carefully scripted marketing messages, Lighthouse is a refreshing change of pace: real folks that get their hands dirty doing the hard jobs.

I am regularly approached by non-profits of many types and purposes seeking donations and time.
I rarely run into an organization that shares my focus of measuring real results and focusing dollars on the Voice of the Community.

Lighthouse is one of those rare organizations that takes the time to actually listen and observe, understand key issues in the community, and then focuses their entire staff, organizational goals, etc around those issues.

They have impressed me by not just chasing the latest "flavor of the month" in terms of submitting grants, but have instead remained consistently focused on their organizational purpose.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Spending time in King Kennedy, Garden Valley and Outhwaite with residents. Spending time with a group of young men on a road trip to DC. Interacting with community leaders and hearing their view on the huge impact that Lighthouse has.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Continue to upgrade the skillset on the board. Focus on building an endowment fund to ensure a clear financial baseline for decades of future service.
