Review for SOCIETY OF THE WAR OF 1812 IN STATE OF CALIFORNIA, Ventura, CA, USA
Couldn't ask for a better organization than this one. Very friendly group of men doing their very best to promote the history of this great nation of ours, as well as encouraging genealogical research. This little known war was actually the war that gave us our real independence, our national anthem, and a northern border that has lasted for over 200 years. Next year 2012 will mark that anniversary. While my own ancestor, I have found five of them, but the one I am talking about served under Gen. Jackson at Horseshoe Bend and then New Orleans helped saved the wounded leg of a young Lt., named Sam Houston, who later became President of the Republic of Texas. While he served his adopted nation, he was from Ireland, his cousin, on the other hand was in charge of burning down the capitol. History sometimes make strange bedfellows. Additional research show a vast majority of the members of the California Society were either directly or indirectly related to each other. As I previously stated you won't find a better organization than the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of California.
