Special Olympics Florida, Inc.
June 24, 2011

I was involved with the Special Olympics FL(in Broward county) through the Joe Jonas iwin fun run(I raised over five thousand for them) It was a great experience even though I think it could have been better organized(just being honest). Before I got involved I always thought the SO was a great organization but didn't realize how much joy and positive impact it has on those that are mentally disabled. This charity to quite a few of the athletes I talked to were their social lifes. The SO provides a place and a community where they are accepted and have friends, where I'm not sure they would be able to get many other places. Also, what I didn't realize is that some of the athletes are able to live on their own without any finical assistance by their families, even though they still are not able to have jobs that frankly pay very well. So, it is very important that is the SO is sponsored because it's not like they can pay for it themselves and they also many times can't get better paying jobs ethier.
I really believe in the mission of the Special Olympics even though I think they need to be more organized.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the faces of the athletes and hearing their stories.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would, as I said be more organized in the way they execute events. Also to get more 'bang for their buck' in which, not only get money but also donations by Marriott reward points or something like that, so things they do are as expensive. Because I know the four VIP tickets that were given away as a prize for the two top donors at the fun run were paid for by the SO when, I believe that they could have gotten them for free if they had asked Joe Jonas' manager(or Joe himself) for the tickets.
