International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region
June 24, 2011

I joined this Board, I believe, to strengthen one of the Five A's in its mandate, having worked in the field of HIV/AIDS, nationally, regionally and internationally for over twenty years.
The fact that the organization would seek to strengthen all areas was to me impressive and spoke to the fact that they were serious about meeting their strategic objectives.
Board meetings are serious, well-organized, in depth and are guided by a strong Chair, a knowledgable and interactivePresident and a most able and impressive Executive Director.
Meaningful attention is paid both to overarching goals and objectives but also to meeting the objectives at individual country levels, to include addressing the concerns of volunteers.
The Board represents a wide cross-section of skills including financial skills and the Secretariat has also managed to attract similar breadth of skills and remarkable commitment.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My parents were involved in Family Planning as it was then known and so over probably fifty years have seen the positive effects on what was then a much narrower mandate and have watched it address much broader concerns and issues over many ears.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would seek to empower the existing youth voices both on the Board and among the volunteers and structure it so that the strength of young people on the Board networks with those in the volunteers at individual country level. I would also seek to ensure that the Caribbean aspect of the partnership is always strongly represented.

MY ROLE:
Board Member & Essentially as a Borad member I helped to guide policy and certainly in the area of HIV/AIDS and sexual reproductive rights which is the area where I have had the most experience.I have also been involved in Lectures and panel discussions at individual co.
