Review for Parent Heart Watch, Geneva, OH, USA
Parent Heart Watch brought me comfort and direction during a tragic time. In 2004, we lost our 9 year old son Jonathan to a brain injury he sustained after experiencing Sudden Cardiac Arrest which was caused by an undetected heart syndrome called Long QT. PHW reached out to us to let us know there were others too who lost children unexpectedly to SCA or resulting injury from SCA. They let us know that we could take our grief and channel it into a productive, life saving mission for others. PHW focuses on Primary Prevention (screening hearts) and Secondary Prevention (creating 'heart safe' environments where our children and youth work and play) through SCA Awareness, CPR training and Public Access to AEDs (defibrillators). I first became a member for healing (these are some of the best people I know) and quickly became a volunteer to help in the mission of protecting not only our youth, but our community from THE number one cause of death in the US. After SCA no family should be told "We didn't know what to do!", this will leave them haunted by the vision of their loved one not receiving care in a timely fashion. They should always be told "We did everything that we could (called 911, started CPR, got the AED)" Knowing this, whether the person was able to survive or not will make a world of difference.

Review for Ken Heart Foundation, Geneva, OH, USA
I can not say enough about the courageous work being done by the Ken Heart Foundation. The founder, Linnette, was one of the first to reach out to me after the loss of my own son Jonathan. Our son too was living with an undetected heart syndrome whose first warning sign was sudden cardac arrest. Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes children and youth across our nation everyday and Linette and the KHF were one of the first to start connecting the devasting losses of youth to undetected heart syndromes in a data base which has helped to raise the level of concern and awareness about SCA and youth nationally. With organization like KHF raising awareness, screening kids, and putting defibrillators where our children work and play the tradgies of SCA are reduced. Each time we prevent a death, we honor our own children.
