Review for Lighthouse of Broward County, Inc., Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA
I am a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)and an instructor for Florida State University's program in Visual Disabilities training new TVI's. I've worked intermittently with the Lighthouse of Broward County for the past 6 years. The staff of the Lighthouse has opened its doors to the visually impaired community in Broward County and those who also service them. They have teamed up with our school board to put on events for students and parents. They offer us space to teach college classes of future TVI's and rooms to hold meetings with parents. Special grants have been written by the Lighthouse in response to TVIs' concerns that children who need Low Vision Exams were not getting them, which allowed dozens to be seen by the in-house Low Vision Specialist Dr. Nicole Patterson. Dedicated to serving people with visual impairments, The Lighthouse of Broward has set-up another place that professionals in the field can call home. Summer and after school programs serving children, are planned in unison with teachers of the visually impaired from Broward schools, creating a smooth, successful continuation of skills for all children who attend. They strive continuously to make improvements to existing programs, to create new programs and to keep successful programs thriving. It is so nice to have an agency truly dedicated to serving people of all ages who are visually impaired based on the client's needs in all areas of their lives.
