My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIANS & JEWS, Chicago, IL, USA
My husband and I have supported the IFCJ for more than 10 years now. We are kept updated on the work they are doing by mail and email by our request (but not bombarded with pleas for money as so many organizations do.) They offer important help and crucial support to Jews, helping many to fulfill their dream of emigrating to Israel and helping them to transition once they arrive in their Jewish homeland. They help very poor elderly Jews in Russia and other countries where they are suffering discrimination. They also do much to help Israel both in the area of safety (e.g. building or restoring bomb shelters) and in assimilating new refugees. They hold classes, help emigrees receive job training and provide basic needs for new arrivals as well as food & goods for the very poor.
I am sorry the only other person to write a review was from a bad experience. My parents are both in their 90's and very senile. At a point, they were giving money to anyone who wrote them & asked for it, every time they wrote. So many well-known & respected charitable organizations were writing to them every week! IFCJ honored my wishes and sent all their correspondence to me, and occasionally we'd send a check from Mom & Dad along with our check. I do realize that seemingly all the major charitable organizations constantly work for donations and the vulnerable people among us will be taken in. That's why it's very important that if someone doesn't have the mental capacity to handle their own funds, a trustee or power of attorney must be named. It's inconceivable to me that a mentally handicapped man would be left in charge of his inheritance. If he's as mentally deficient as I get from your description, someone should long ago have been named to handle his medical and financial decisions.
