The Oral Cancer Foundation
July 31, 2009
Without the Oral Cancer Foundation, and the founder-Brian Hill in particular, there would be very little done to create awareness and move towards advancements regarding Oral Cancer (OC).
Brian Hill spends countless hours educating dental students through lectures at universities, lobbying at the NCI, CDC, and testifying before congressional committees and the FDA on matters related to the populations OCF serves, and in support of those who suffer the burdens of the disease.
He also works on fund raising to support research in the areas that are hot ideas in oral cancer today like HPV research, and early detection.
Brian spends a great deal of my time serving and working with other stake holders in the oral cancer issue, to name a few of the boards he sits on and works with each month; the American Academy of Oral Medicine Oral Cancer Task Force, The College of Prosthetics Oral Cancer Work Group, The Centers for Disease Control Oral Cancer Advisory Counsel, The American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthetics Oral Cancer Task Force, The American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Oral Cancer Task Force.
OCF is the primary information backgrounder source and fact checker for numerous media outlets as it related to OC from the NY Times to the Wall St. Journal, besides being interviewed as a reliable and trusted source on OC issues from a national standpoint in print publications and for TV stations
Brian has worked with special cause efforts - like with the Kennedy team on passing the recent Tobacco/FDA bill as advisory and as advocates, his organization disseminates more than a million public information "what you need to know about oral cancer" public awareness brochures a year through events and dental and medical offices.
I believe the oral cancer community would be worse off if Brian Hill hadn't stepped up and committed his time and resources to create much needed change.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
