Already struggling as a family last year, when the economic situation got worse, my husband lost enough hours on his job to endanger our being able to maintain life in the area. We have had to make use of the food pantry for the past year and a half, when we used to be able to donate regularly. Unfortunately, the situation has also left our 3 year old son without proper health coverage (due to an error between the current and previous insurance companies). We were not expecting to be able to get him his life-saving medicine (he has just been diagnosed with severe asthma, which is not under control yet)and asked if they might also be able to assist us with the funds we lacked for to purchase his medicine. Thankfully, they were able to give us the difference between the funds we had and what we needed to get his medicine. This saved us an emergency room visit last night!, as his asthma gets worse whenever he plays/walks more than 30 yards/ or just about any other form of exercise. His pediatrician thinks it might clear up as he gets older, but for now it is severe enough to be life-threatening. May God Bless and Keep the great people of NHCO in his care at all times! AMEN!

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... the ability to get my son the medicine necessary to save his life and food for his nutritional needs.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... they are there when we need them and are equally as friendly as they are dependable.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... like old friends that you miss seeing after school ends.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... help everyone in the community out just a little better, especially since the entire community is having trouble staying afloat given the current economic situation.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... the economy would improve enough that my husband can find steady employment and we can contribute again.
  • If I ran this organization, I would... find more ways to help more people in these tough times, by providing more volunteers to help out on distribution days.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... lack of resources in these tough economic times.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... everyone does what they can, when they can. It's nice to know that you aren't just a number served, when you need to ask for help.

MY ROLE:
I was a Client Served & I recieved help for to save my son's life!

The people here are Excellent! We have recently fallen on extremely difficult times, with multiple complications. They don't judge, nor do they make you feel ashamed like some other organizations, for needing help. We have a 2-yr.-old son which benefitted greatly from the Santa/ Toy Shop this Christmas. With their help and that of our local community, we were able to enjoy seeing his smile as "Santa" delivered his requested toys. Toys that three days later are still getting 12 hr/day use! They also helped us keep our utilities on when we were having trouble because of being victims of identity theft, death of my father/landlord, and my husband losing hours on his job. I hope everyone involved receives as many or more blessings as they give out every year. This mother has tears in her eyes of pure happiness seeing her son still happy with "Santa"'s presents. Presents that we would never have been able to get for him ourselves, we found from the generosity of those that donated to this wonderful organization. Thanks again and may the tradition of community continue even in these tough times.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... the smiles of an innocent child on Christmas morning!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... they do not make a person feel ashamed of needing help and they are always there when necessary.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... all pleasant and caring.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... help more members of the community and make more children happy. Perhaps it could also help tenants save the home they were renting, instead of having to move into an apartment or out of the area?
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... more people would donate when they could to help those of us who have fallen on difficult times.
  • If I ran this organization, I would... find ways to get more donations from multiple corporate sponsors to help in these tough times, when people who donated in the past have to seek help instead of providing it.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... lack of donations with the rising difficulty posed by these economic times, especially in the local area.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... everyone has times when they hit a rough patch. Please remember that and donate when you can, because you never know when you will need the help.
