ADAP ADVOCACY ASSOCIATION
54321
09/23/08

Washington, DC

This organization is the ONLY national HIV/AIDS organization fighting to improve the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs). ADAPs provide life-saving medications to people living with HIV/AIDS who have little, or no insurance. Believe it or not, but there have actually been national waiting lists to access this important program due to insufficient federal funding, and in some cases people have actually died waiting for their medications. So while we fight to provide low-cost medications to those suffering from HIV/AIDS in foreign countries (which we should be doing), we're letting Americans die waiting! The ADAP Advocacy Association is simple terms is fighting for those who cannot fight themselves.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... Helping to promote self-advocates nationwide, who can contact Members of Congress to talk about their personal stories.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... It is a true grassroots organization, operating from the bottom up and not the top down.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... The organization is governed by a dedicated, diverse volunteer board of directors. The association will benefit from the combined experience of three HIV-positive members, one ADAP recipient, one physician, one attorney, four influential AIDS community leaders and two lifelong disability rights champions.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Rather than talk about what our organization could do with $10 million, it seems more appropriate what type of care could be provided if the federal government appropriated an additional $138 million. There would be no more waiting lists for life-saving medications. Americans living with HIV/AIDS would not die waiting for their medications. And people living with this disease could live happier, healthier and more productive lives.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... N/A
  • If I ran this organization, I would... N/A
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... N/A
  • One thing I'd also say is that... N/A
