This organization seems to be raising public awareness and getting legislation passed to protect consumer and children's health. I use their safe cosmetics database all the time to look for shampoos, baby lotions, sunscreen, lipstick that are less toxic. I read about their research - such as the latest report on rocket fuel chemicals found in baby formulas - frequently in NYT and other major media. I am impressed by the depth and breadth of their work.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... The great public awareness raising they've done about lead in lipstick, toxic chemicals in sunscreen and bubble bath products for kids, toxic chemicals in baby formula.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... How useful their research is, how accessible their website for safe cosmetics database is for looking up products, and how much advocacy work I see them doing to get our legislators to more carefully regulate consumer products
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... I don't know. I am pretty happy with what I've seen of their work.

Long waits for appointments for pediatric GI. Especially on Wednesdays because apparently those are urgent days and they can't stick as closely to appointment times. We waited 1.5 hours to be seen.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... I have heard great things about the GI doctors at the hospital.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... If we were told ahead of time how long the wait could take. It's hard to wait for that long with a 10 month old baby in a small examination room.

I've really enjoyed all the different programs they have. It's a rare place in San Francisco to get together and hear a great speaker and talk about public affairs or culture with other interesting people.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... The programs that I've attended.
Ways to make it better!
- My experience would have been better if... Their "upcoming events" link on their website would load up properly.

I am a local nonprofit executive and I use Compasspoint's services a lot. I always look forward to their conferences because they are super lively and fun and address a lot of issues that not a lot of other people are willing to talk about honestly in the sector. And they really mix it up and get speakers who are though leaders yet are willing to mingle, make jokes and debate with the audience. I also find their studies to be right on the money. Their Daring to Lead study which looked at leadership challenges facing nonprofit executive directors is practial and well-researched. I haven't yet attended any of their trainings yet, but I've sent my employees there and they've said they learned a lot.
The Great!
- I've seen the results of this organization in... the useful and educational research studies and conferences they've put on.
- What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the candor of the nonprofit and it's willingness to speak up to funders about difficult issues facing nonprofits
- The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... passionate and bright with a willingness to both help individual nonprofit professionals get all the practical training they need, as well as advocate on a national level for issues facing nonprofit professionals.
- If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... be a national support system for nonprofit professionals and a voice for the nonprofit sector.
Ways to make it better!
- If I ran this organization, I would... expand and do for nonprofits in other regions what they have done in the bay area. And also try to find someone who can continue the wonderful cartoon they used to publish Planet 501c(3). It was a much-needed source of humor for us who work in nonprofits.
