BRIGHTHAVEN INC

Santa Rosa, CA

BrightHaven is simply an amazing retreat and hospice for elderly and disabled animals, as well as an educational center. Director Gail Pope is an expert in homeopathic care, and the atmosphere is one of love in which cats routinely live to 28 years.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... the long lives lived by animals; the results in myself, as I have absorbed the principles of care in an environment of love.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... working with such loving, caring people.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... exceptional in their dedication and knowledge.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... spread the knowledge of animal hospice nationwide.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... having to raise money.

MY ROLE:
I was a Volunteer & I help weekly with feeding, grooming, computer, watering, cleaning.

KITTY COMMITTEE

Petaluma, CA

Kitty Committee's is a small northern California nonprofit established in 2001 in west Sonoma County. Its mission is to help feral cats live healthier lives by trapping, neutering and returning them to their colonies for daily maintenance by caretakers. When adobtable, homes are found. Equipment loans, advice and financial aid are also offered. Kitty Committee's donations all go directly to the cats in the form of food, medicine and shelter.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... prevention of large breeding colonies by immediate attention to trpping and neutering.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the complete dedication of its director, Laura Comyns.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... dedicated, intelligent, resourceful and hardworking.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... change the entire county's feral and abandoned cat problem.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... irresponsibility on the part of animal "owners."

MY ROLE:
I was a Volunteer & I have created newsletters, flyers, donation box labels as well as ongoing email networking for rescue, fostering and adoption.
