My first experience with the missing in America project was meeting Rick Prioetti and he was telling about the starting up of the project, next thing I heard about was the honor to Arlington project which was totally overwhelling to me to think about all the work that went into getting this project together.
I got more information and details on the Honors to Arlington through a Channel 7 news story my own Son did on the MIAP.
Then we meet again at a Viet Nam Veterans of America State Council meeting in Fresno where Fred Salanti did a presentation on MIAP, listening to Fred and the passion in his voice about the project locked me in as a supporter and I encourage my V.V.A. chapter to support them with some funds.
Being able to follow the ride to Arlington by internet was a genius idea and gathered more supporters along the way. What we are most proud and supportive of is the MIAP is a National project started in our own backyard Shata County.
My next experience with MIAP was our chapters planning to celebrate The Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration on Sat. March 27.
The idea came up to do a Motorcade from the Vets hall to the Igo Vets Cemetery. I knew exactly who to contact...MIAP. I got in contact with Rick P and he talked to Fred and they did what I wished and expected them to do,
they took the motorcade over as a MIAP project and that is one thing about the celebration we did not have to worry about, It was done! They have been to every planning meeting actually a few more than myself. MIAP is an asset to the County, Community and Veterans Community.
Thank you M.I.A.P.

I was a participant of one of the Vet's Journey Home Weekend's a few years ago. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I was a woman in combat in 1991 during Desert Storm. I have a bad case of PTSD. These people understood and helped me adjust far more than any V.A. program ever designed for us to date. Before the weekend, I was on the verge of suicide. Since, I have written 2 books and produced over 180 short films. My life went from having no meaning to finding abundance.

I have continued to go back and volunteer at every possible weekend since. I get a lot from volunteering and knowing I helped make a difference in another struggling veteran's life.

There aren't enough words in the English language to sing the praises of VJH and the Starfish Foundation Inc. Patricia Clason and Gene McMahon are wonderful healers and should be afforded every opportunity possible to keep doing the work they have dedicated themselves to by helping veterans.

With the troops coming home from two wars, they provide an invaluable service. Please help them keep healing us.

PMT was a part of my life from 8-18 years old. The training and experience that I received there is the reason that I am currently studying performing arts in college. Every teacher I studied with was extremely helpful, and each and everyone of them helped me move toward where I am now. PMT gave me lifelong (hopefully!) friendships, real experience in the professional world, a solid training background, and most importantly, the confidence to fight the odds and pursue my dream.

I volunteered to staff at the Vets Journey Home. org several times. I was so impressed with the depth of their work, that I raised funds and did a documentary which they now use on their website to promote the work they do with Vets. They have a weekend workshop which truly begins to bring soldiers back from their war/trauma and experiences by using a combination of well orchestrated exercises-- that really take people back into their most difficult moments and then transform and re-frame the other memory with the help of the compassionate people in the room staffing. It is deep and miraculous work.

I had the good fortune to attend my first meditation retreat on a scholarship and was so pleased and impressed with the experience that I have attended as often as possible. Meditation is a healthy and positive response to the symptoms of PTSD. Anything I can do to avoid medication is wanted and needed. Fallen Warriors have done a great job in caring for vets with PTSD! I rate then FIVE STARS PLUS!!! THANKS, TOM NORTON

I volunteer to raise money for The Foundation because I believe it's mission of assisting Marines and former Marines who cannot afford to send their qualified children to college is a most worthy cause. The value set of many of these young people is exactly what has made our country great. Educating them provides America with the potential leaders as well as the good citizens necessary to sustain our leadership position in the world. Honoring the service of these parents by helping to educate their children is a win-win for all concerned.

I volunteered to be a staff person at a Vet's Journey Home weekend in San Diego in 2009. Not being a military veteran myself, I was still anxious to support the men and women who had served in the many conflicts to which our soldiers have been ordered since World War II. My experience was positive; I was able to see how vital this type of process is for some Vets. There were tears and many stories recounting loss, fear, regret and guilt felt by different veterans. There was also an atmosphere of complete acceptance that allowed for healing, for moving on to the present and getting on with life.

It is one of the most powerful ministry I know. They work on behalf of those who can't fight for themselves, the unborn. What I really like about it is that they also provide services to the pregnant mothers, giving them a new perspective and a better outlook on the future. This is 'Love Thy neighbor' in action.

I have had the priviledge of working with Ron and Lee Eppich on several of their projects. Some people wave the flag; then go home for dinner. Some people say that "they are going to do something": and then they don't. Some people salute the flag; and then they don't vote. Some people say that "they support vets"...as long as it is convenient. This has never been the case with the Old Guard Riders.

How many people do YOU know that will take a week off from work to ride a motorcycle all of the way across this country to see that a black Buffalo Soldier, a soldier that died almost a hundred years ago, be given the honor that he deserved by being interred at Arlington National Cemetery? They may not be in a class by themselves, but it dosen't take long to call the roll.

A veteran dies; they are there on a flag line. A military family needs help; they do the best that they can for them. Some people just talk; Ron and Lee do something about it.

I am not a vet; I never served my country. I greatly appreciate people that do!

People must realize we only live one life here, and why not do something enjoyable while we are here, so anybody who reads this Please get connected. We came into this world with nothing, and we will leave with nothing, so I say DONATE something

I have been in leadership roles at both the local and national levels of the Sierra Club for ten years. My capacities include chair of MA Chapter Local Outings (5 years), chair of the Northeast Subcommitte for National Outings (5 years), and member of MA Chapter ExComm and Boston Group Excom (multiple terms during this same period). The Club is unique for a structure and volunteer philosphy that empowers folks to self-fulfill in the capacity that each is comfortable and qualified for, for its legislative activism, for the community that it brings given its national and local presence, and for its history that dates back to John Muir. When I became a life member in 1988, I evaluated all the options and found the Sierra Club to be the most worthy of my support. I still do.

After returning home from my tour in 'Nam, I stayed drunk for many years, hoping to forget. The only joy I had was through my children. I did finally quit drinkin, and the pain continued. I still had the issues, dreams and pain. It wasn't til I heard about Vets Journey Home, it was called Bamboo Bridge at that time, 1997, that I did any real work in my issues. A buddy told me about the weekend and I decided to attend. The Fridayy evening of the weekend, I got so scared of facing my demons, that I left and didn't come back that weekend. Some time passed, the pain increased and the dreams kept me from functioning in the world. I decided to face my fears and attend another Vets Journey Home weekend. This one, I saw thru. I faced the worst of my dreams, talked about it for the first time in many, many years. That weekend started me on my path to self recovery. With the help of the very concerned staff, I was taken back to 'Nam and talked about what happened. After that weekend, I still have the dreams, and they don't have the charge they had, nor do they own me any more. It has been my honor to staff many Vets Journy Home weekends. Giving back the the orginazation that, litteraly saved my life and sanity.

I am a single mom to 4 kids and I am battling breast cancer. I was recently ( sept 09) in a motorcycle accident and this foundation, which I found on facebook helped me with household bills. I just filled out a short application, explained my situation and the next day help was on its way. I cant thank them enough for what they did and continue to do for others. Thank you VERY much Moto-angels. :) Jennifer G.

I didn't know what to expect when I arrived in San Francisco to work with Swords to Plowshares. What I did know was that they were a leading organization helping veterans to access their benefits, overcome addiction, deal with health issues and even get them into permanent housing.

What I didn't know was that Swords to Plowshares is so much more than all of that. I didn't know about the amazing legal team and all they really do for veterans. They have created a community among the people who go through their program and those who volunteer and work with them become a part of this community as well.

I appreciated their rules that created respect among the people in their community regardless of their individual differences.

I appreciated the humanity with which they treated every person.

My name is Tiik Pollet and I've participated in the Artomatic Event 5 or 6 times. I love the enrichment of this wonderful venue. Where else can I find such an inspiring and transformative experience - being invited to share my paintings, photography, drawings and music all under the same roof, and with hundreds of other artists? This Artomatic community has become an important part of my life, heart, creative process and networking. I have benefited spiritually, creatively and financially. And my financially I mean I have sold one or two pieces...though I hope to sell more eventually.

My guest book notes are great feedback, support and critique plus marvelous networking.

My work shifts are handled well by all staffers, including once when I got really sick on my shift.

Conflict with other artists have been handled well. EX: One artist put up a display cage in the middle aisle between my panel and the ones across from me...effectively blocking the view of both our works. The staff helped resolve this to everyone's pleasure by moving their display up to the windows.
Ya had to be there...but if you were there last yr then you know the layout.

When I set up my space everyone is very friendly about sharing paint or tools and ladders if they have them to lend for a few hours, etc.

The fee to exhibit is reasonable and I appreciate that it has not increased because that would make a difference to me since as yet I've only sold 2 pieces and seem to be learning HOW to use the space to make a buck...mostly I am rewarded in other ways.
