If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would create strategic learning alliances with community-based organizations from other parts of Los Angeles County and the country. Such partnerships could help capture additional funds to continue and expand their work.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
YSC is an outstanding organization with which to work. They reflect the qualities of a well-lead, and managed organization. Despite their size, they are able to accomplish more than their larger counterparts. I am truly impressed.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
YSC's staff and volunteers are committed, down to earth, and hard working. They recognize the need in the community and work diligently to accomplish their goals. I especially like the way the organization quickly responds to issues in their area.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
This organization has great potential. With $10m, they would improve the quality of life for the residents of Pacoima by engaging them in programs and activities that promote self-sufficiency, social responsibility, and personal accountability.

if I would have met them sooner in my career.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
limited capacity is the biggest challenge facing YSC, in my opinion. Their mission and vision make them a viable entity; with increased capacity, they would be even more effective as a community partner.
One thing I'd also say is that...
YSC is an outstanding community partner. They have developed best practices that should be replicated in other communities. Their spirit of community and commitment to engage young people makes them a gem to work with in San Fernando Valley.

Youth Speak Collective is a youth-driven initiative empowering low-income communities in the northeast San Fernando Valley. Youth Speak Collective has provided after-school programming including education, athletic, and youth empowerment services to over 3,000 youth annually in Pacoima and the greater northeast San Fernando Valley. Youth Speak Collective has over 500 youth on a daily basis attending one of their many programs. Due to its remote and distant location, youth from Pacoima are also isolated from the variety of programs and organizations that youth outside the area are able to access. Youth Speak Collective provides a free and structured programming to this high-risk population in Pacoima as well leadership opportunities. Youth Speak Collective is well-operated and respected in the community. Staff members have a good rapport with the kids and a good relationship with other providers and community members.
