I have been on the Board of YOS for just over a year now and It has been a great pleasure to be part of such a wonderful organization. The staff and leadership team of YOS are truly amazing. YOS is extremely well run and organized. This coupled with the complete commitment towards helping our youth makes YOS a difference maker in so many lives.

As a long time educator, insuring the well being of children has always been a priority of mine. When I got the opportunity to work as a Board Member for YOS, I knew that I had found an organization that clearly held that same value. YOS positively impacts the lives of so many children and families, many of whom literally have nowhere else to turn for support. The services that YOS provide are vital in the communities that they serve. Through its many years of community service, I can only imagine the number of lives that YOS has changed, and in fact saved. I am proud to serve with such an amazing organization, and I would and do urge friends and family members to offer support to YOS in any way that they can.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

meeting and speaking with the youth who have been positively impacted through the services provided by YOS.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue to explore alternative funding resources.

I was introduced to Youth Outreach Services (YOS) by a former colleague last summer and quickly joined the Auxiliary Board thereafter. I've volunteered at a number of non-profits over the years, and while all had good intentions, YOS has effectively differentiated itself as an organization truly making a difference. I've honored to serve on the board for such a well-run and important organization.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Observation of its tremendous impact on the lives of vulnerable children.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Push to increase the organization's scale, at least at the Auxiliary Board level.

YOS is CRITICAL in helping Chicago youth and their families navigate challenges that face them through adolsence. Whether through prevention services, counseling, rehabilitation or independent living skills, YOS really provides a comprehensive set of programs to serve our future.

I've
been on the Board for nearly 5 years, and always find myself amazed by the energy and dedication of staff. It's not just WHAT they do (programs) but HOW they do their work that makes the difference.

Finally, as Board tresurer, I can attest that this agency is efficient. Money goes to where it's intended to go...to help the kids.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the positive outcomes via our TLP programs, interacting with clients touched by the agency

If there was one thing I would change about YOS, it would be increasing the amount of independent (non-state gov't) funding it receives. YOS provides tremendous services, unfortunately it can't always provide services to their logical conclusion on a client-by-client basis given reliance on state funders. More independent funding would help continue services until clients are truly ready (vs. when state deems ready based on age) and incubate new programs as well.

I joined the Auxiliary Board for YOS in July of last year and over the last several months I have met and worked with some amazing individuals who sincerely care about the organization. The YOS staff and volunteers go above and beyond to make this organization a success by fundraising, helping children in disadvantaged situations, and increasining public awareness.

Youth Outreach Services, Inc. advances the common good of its client base through its uncommonly good work as it seeks to “promote the strengths and abilities of youth and families.” For the past 50 years, YOS has been instrumental in transforming and improving the lives of those it has been privileged to serve. As a board member, I have had the honor of serving this Agency in one capacity or another for nearly half of those 50 years. Twenty-five years is a long time to devote to a single cause, but it becomes a testament to the incredible work that YOS does on behalf of youth and families throughout the Chicagoland area. The community-based services that YOS provide do indeed “empower and enrich individuals and families to face life’s challenges with confidence, competence, and dignity,” and with social services funding being cut or eliminated, YOS is a critical component for advancing the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable members in our society.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

working with the staff, being in direct dialog with organizations, groups, and individuals who have used YOS's services, listening to the testimonials that have been shared over the years, and witnessing some incredible outcomes

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand our funding sources and donor base so that we are less reliant on the unpredictability of state and federal funding sources

Youth Outreach Services is a WONDERFUL organization. They are one of the most dynamic and compassionate organizations that I have had the pleasure of working with. They are truly making a huge difference in the lives of many At Risk Youths here in the Chicago area. Lives are changing for the better every day because of the wonderful programs and caring people that make up YOS!!!

I have seen first hand how the dedicated staff and their passionate work with programs have made significant positive impact with individuals who despertly need it and with the community as a whole. The YOS facilities, programs, staff, is helping those who need it the most.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

by familiarizing myself with all the programs they offer, and the way they function as it relates to staff, clients, and space allocation. The clients, program directors, and staff have made a great impact on me as their achievements make my involvement in YOS so important as it appears YOS is a critical need in so many young lives.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Allow for more direct funding from the coffers of othe accounts.
