I have volunteered with Youth Direct for many years. I believe in this ministry so much that I have traveled as far as Houston and Wichita Falls just to be able to minister to youth that are in prison. This ministry is definetely Christ centered and reaching out to a hard to reach group. I will continue to volunteer with Youth Direct. Kevin

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

When I see the youth open up and are willing to talk to me and other volunteers about Christ.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have more facilities to visit.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoy the friendships with the other volunteers that I can have with complete strangers from many different church backgrounds.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The most open, friendly, kind, and of one focus. Witnessing to the youth about Christ

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Open up half way homes, or facilities to help troubled youth.

Ways to make it better...

Couldn't get better.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of volunteers who are willing to continue to go to prisons to speak with the youth.

One thing I'd also say is that...

When are we going to another facility.

I have been a volunteer for Youth Direct since 2002. My experience with this organization has been excellent. Most of what I have done is in visiting incarcerated youth at juvenile detention centers. I have seen very many positive results in the young people through the actions and efforts of this ministry. I have seen changed lives in a positive way and hope given to young people for their futures where there may not have been hope before. Tommy

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing the positive interaction between volunteers and incarcerated youth. Seeing the hunger that these young people have for some positive attention and seeing the attention and care that they receive from volunteers.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Seek methods of being able to touch more and more lives with what it is already doing.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The well organized manner in which the minstry is administrated. The knowledge, expertise, experience, and smoothness with which the organization is run.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Outstanding staff members. Compassionate and caring volunteers.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

The organization does wonders on a very small budget. With ten million dollars, "the sky would be the limit."

Ways to make it better...

My experiences have been excellent.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Need for more financial backing.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This organization works in an area where there are great needs of adolescents and teens in our society. w We need the support of the type of ministries that Youth Direct offers.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

I have been a donor to Youth Direct since the formation in 2001. Their integrity is outstanding! Don's leadership is excellent and the ministry results speak for themselves. By keeping overhead low, most donations go directly to helping troubled youth. This is the best and most effective ministry I have been associated with. Your dollars are well used with this ministry! I began serving with Youth Direct about 10 years ago. The experience has been so positive and valuable that I have not been able to stop going out with them on mission. Youth Direct is serving God through investing time with troubled youth. YDM goes into Texas Youth Commission facilities to share the gospel, encourage and counsel young boys and girls. They help them to understand that they are valuable and are loved by God. YDM does this in a very unique way. They recruit born again believers in Christ to use there talents to perform, give testimonies and share how God is working in their lives. The director of YDM Don Smarto has an awesome testimony that really grabs the youth's attention. YDM also recruits Christian volunteers to counsel with the youth after the performance. Anybody that has been born again and knows Jesus can do this if they will surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit. YDM provides the perfect tools for sharing using its own YDM comic tract called "Where are you headed?" My experiences are many and always blessed. I can remember sitting with a young boy sharing with him and how thankful he was that we had come. When we finished talking, he wanted to accept Christ because he said no one ever shared with him in this way. The only thing I can think of that he meant was the TRUTH. YDM counsels the volunteers not to preach to the youth but to relate to them the things of God. That makes a big difference with young people. Our church now partners with YDM through out the year to go into TYC facilities and be God's hands, feet, and mouth. It is such good thing that Youth Direct is doing and that is providing us an opportunity to be of service and help these young people know, don't give up. We care and will help you. YDM director Don Smarto follows up with the youth and goes back to teach and provide seminar to train kids in writing skills. They provide a means where we as volunteers can be pen pals with the kids and prayer partners. This is an awesome ministry and everyone who knows Jesus can help Youth Direct share the truth and the love of God with these kids. Evangelism Servant Dwayne Pipkins - serving with gladness
