I have been a volunteer and Board Member for the Support Network for Battered Women for 4 years. We recently merged with the YWCA of Silicon Valley. We chose them as the organization we wanted to be a part of of because of their wonderful mission and also because of the the incredibly dedicated and talented management team that has been in place for a number of years. It is a very well run organization and I am delighted and honored to be with them!

I answer calls on the 24x7 Domestic Violence crisis line every week. It is wonderful to have an organization like the YW who makes a difference in so many lives around the clock!

My first remembrance of the YWCA was when I was 6-years old. My grandmother (for whom I am named) had lived, in the early years of the 20th century, at the YWCA in Chicago where as a young woman she had worked at Hull House. I have always been aware of the YWCA. After working for twenty-years as an Executive Director and Director of Operations in nonprofits that directly worked with childhood education, I happened onto the YWCA after I "retired". For the past year I have been privileged to have first-hand experience with the YWCA of Silicon Valley. As a "Nonprofit Odd Job Specialist", I have helped manage the website and social media for the YW and helped out with accounting. I am amazed at all this organization accomplishes. From child care with subsidies for those who need them to rape crisis intervention, from programs for at risk teens to a shelter for battered women, the YW works tirelessly for women and families in the community. The YW deserves to become a household word in our community. I am happy to be able to help make that a reality.

If personally means I have interacted with those whose lives have been changed, "Yes". As a former high school teacher, I am particularly moved by our Project Inspire teenagers who through this program have been motivated to graduate from high school.
