The goal of the Young Storytellers Foundation is simple- give children in urban LA public schools the freedom to be creative. We, as artists, actors, writers and directors, all live and thrive in LA. So it only makes sense that we give back to our community with our talents. And yet we don't teach storytelling or the 3-act arch of screenwriting. We just let the children write without judgment, and we often find that they are super talented, their stories are compelling and funny, and their confidence soars. So, in effect, the Young Storytellers Foundation is about instilling confidence through the art of writing. And it works!
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The Big Show. Each semester, YSF sends professional actors to each school to perform the screenplays written by the students. For the first time, the children understand how their words can be performed and used to convey a message.
