I have been helping WGEF for three years. This organization is fully committed in creating a systemic change in the lives of the people in Gulu. I have studied many micro-credit organizations and WGEF's micro-credit plus system is the best. An organization well worth servinvg.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

When I watched a woman smile and tell me she went from one meal a day to three and can finally afford to send her kids to school and provide healthcare for them I knew every minute I spend towards this organization counts.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

This organization is in desperate needs of more funds. With more funds we can hire a staff that can help keep it going and give the ladies currently waiting the money they need.

"My name is Betty Ocan a widow and chairperson (Pie-Tek Women Group), I joined the Women, s Global Empowerment Fund in 2008 as a client to receive loans it was my first time and I was just been inspired by my neigbour who was getting the services too. I used to stay and sell tomatoes at home and have to suffer with my stress and all the problems in silence, I had no one to share with, and hardly solved problems that I had. Since I joined the WGEF my life changed, since I have my own group members whom we can sit and share with any issues partaining our lives, infct what I used to think they were impossible, they are! With the help of other group members (women). I thank God for this program that provided me with the opportunity of being a peer counselor Imargin Im a leader who is recognised in the community not only by the women undergoing into the program but even other women in the community, now my home is ever full with visiters (women) who come to share and seek advise from me (who did not attend school) and now I fill I must contest in the upcoming elections to become a political woman, why not? There I will struggle to extend my services and make women more aware of their potantials. With my group we continued getting loans from the Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, Im Succeding with my business, seeing it expanding every loan cycle, I learnt to save, and I feel a big change in my life it can be seen even from my physical apearance you know when you have money you will never fear to tell out your views and ideas and people really respects, Im seeing all this with my eyes, I only request that the office continue supporting us and more women in the community in all the programs, there we will have a better generation where women are respected and not taken like properties and tools."

The work that WGEF does is both powerful and important, as so many others have said. I think, however, what really sets this organization apart is not the work that it does but the manner in which it does it. It is a simple yet highly effective model that is immediately embraced by everyone who comes into contact with it. By devoting nearly all of the resources directly to the clients it serves, and remaining true to its purpose and origins while still evolving for the clients' needs, Women's Global Empowerment Fund truly stands out among non-profits.

After spending almost a year studying community development in East Africa, my view of the kind of work that was effective, sustainable and empowering became very narrow. WGEF is one of these inspiring organizations that keeps me motivated and optimistic about non-profit aid and our ability to impact the lives of others across the globe. Karen, the ED, and the others that work for WGEF really put their ears to the ground, and have created a program in response to the needs of the community. The women in Uganda who participate take pride and ownership in their own growth, success and ability to provide for their families and communities in way they never could before. In this way, it really is the Women's Global EMPOWERMENT Fund.

WGEF is an organization I have been hearing great things about for quite some time. After having the chance to look into their program, meet with the Karen (the founder), and see what a difference WGEF makes in women's lives every day, I am both thrilled and blessed to be a part of the organization. The fact that a small loan can change women's lives completely is staggering. Though women in Uganda are in abject poverty, their strength, determination, and support of one another is inspiring.

It's truly a grassroots organization. You don't have to donate money to make a difference- your time is valuable and valued.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

significantly change lives and the lives of future generations in Uganda.

Women's Global is an incredible organization that has been bringing hope, economic development and education to post-conflict Uganda. The women who are clients of WGEF are nothing short of awe-inspiring in their dedication to improving their lives and the lives of those around them. With the support of WGEF's loans and the newly established literacy program, these women are a new force for sustainable economic, health and education development in northern Uganda. I'm proud to be part of an organization that is empowering women realize their own potential and then use that potential to impact change in our world.

Women's Global Empowerment Fund is one of those organizations that you just NEED to be a part of. It's a group of people who inspire you to be the best YOU possible, who remind you that others in need aren't a problem but a responsibilty. Seeing your efforts change Women's lives is humbling...WGEF does an amazing job of focusing on the successes achieved in Uganda rather than the crisis that still remains. Helping these Women find their voice- their independence- their capability, is nothing short of awe inspiring and I am proud to be involved with an organization of this magnitude.

After a friend told me wonderful things about Women's Global Empowerment Fund, I decided to accept her invitation to join the Resource Development Committee. I have been impressed by the mission, the staff, the results, the other volunteers and the passionate founder and director, Karen Sugar. It's amazing to me that our average loan of only $57 can help lift a woman in Uganda out of the cycle of extreme poverty when she joins with other woman to start a business. It's unbelievable to me that out of the 1,300 loans we have given out so far, ALL of them have been repaid without default! This program is working, and it's working well. It's changing lives in post-conflict Uganda, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

The Great!

seeing a room full of powerful women at our recent event who were all touched and/or moved to tears by the images in our video, the personal stories of our Director, and the plea for support by one of our Board Members.

I have recently become involved with this group and am incredibly impressed with the comprehensive mission and the energy and effectiveness of the people involved. Not only does it provide micro-loans to women in Gulu, Uganda, but it also provides literacy services and other critical services for women in the area. All of the board members and volunteers are very passionate about the organization and work together effectively to further the fundraising efforts, spread the word in the local Colorado community, and achieve the mission.

I found Women's Global empowerment fund through a classmate. I was interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit world especially through microfinance. Now, after having been with this organization for only a few short months I am absolutely positive that this is the career I want to pursue. I truly believe that in order to create sustainable and lasting change you have to help people help themselves. Women's Global is doing an incredible thing by helping women gain control over their own destiny through microcredit and literacy programs.
