Women's Global Empowerment Fund is one of those organizations that you just NEED to be a part of. It's a group of people who inspire you to be the best YOU possible, who remind you that others in need aren't a problem but a responsibilty. Seeing your efforts change Women's lives is
humbling...WGEF does an amazing job of focusing on the successes achieved in Uganda rather than the crisis that still remains. Helping these Women find their voice- their independence- their capability, is nothing short of awe inspiring and I am proud to be involved with an organization of this magnitude.

I have now been volunteering with Women's Global Empowerment Fund for over a year, and in that time have been able to see the impact this organization makes, both for women in Gulu, and here in the States. The bond between the women participating in the program and the people "across the pond" raising funds and awareness is overwhelming. I am so grateful for the opportunity to meet the inspirational men and women involved in WGEF!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Meeting the women who have been in the program and hearing their stories of how WGEF changed their lives in so many ways; their families are stronger, they are able to help provide for their own well being, their children are able to attend school, and they have a support system they have never experienced before.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Allow for more funding to make a difference for more families in Uganda.

As a volunteer for WGEF I have been incredibly impressed by the (direct) positive impacts that microfinance has on the lives of the women in the program. I myself am constantly motivated and inspired by this revolutionary concept and the way that WGEF has personalized and improved upon the experience from client to volunteer. For example, their literacy program and peer counseling program have created new dimensions to improve the lives of their clients beyond just the financial aspect.

WGEF is a very powerful nonprofit organization helping women of Northern Uganda eradicate poverty and empower themselves, family and community. The core focus is to provide micro finance loans for women to pursue business oportunities. In addition, WGEF has created a literacy program which focuses on the educational development of women and children in Uganda.

Having been actively involved wih Women's Global Empowermet Fund since its founding, I have personally witnessed the direct impact and positive change the organization has provided to the women of Northern Uganda. In 2008, I had the opportunity to travel to Gulu and meet many of the women in the program and have seen first hand the empowement and independence Women's Global has facilitated through microcredit lending. Women's Gobal has provided to these women, and as an extension their families and community, opportunites, including entrepreneurship and literacy that otherwise would never have been available to them. Women's Global is an amazing organization with the power to create lasting change through grass roots efforts.

I help to plan events to raise funds for WGEF. Last fall we had the great pleasure to welcome one of our clients and our Program Director for a visit to Denver from Gulu, Uganda. Our client, Grace, spoke eloquently of how she had been able to start five businesses with her loans from WGEF. These businesses now employ other women, and the income allows her to provide three meals a day for her family and to cover the school fees for each of her four children. In addition, her husband now includes her in family decisions, and she even recently won a political office to represent women in her community. She credits the skills she has learned through her involvement with WGEF with her ability to display this kind of leadership. This is just one of the many success stories of WGEF. This organization has done so much with relatively limited resources. The loans and services provided by WGEF truly are transforming lives in a previously war torn area.

I work as pro bono legal counsel to WGEF and have been involved, outside of work, with fundraising and spreading the word about this great organization. Having spoken to, and seen correspondence from, women who have been able to improve their lives, not only from the loans they get, but from the mentoring program and literacy program that WGEF runs, I am really proud to be part of the "team".

I have been associated with Women's Global Empowerment Fund for about one year. It is a wonderful organization run by a truly dedicated and inspirational leader, Karen Sugar. The work of the WGEF helps thousands of women in Uganda, giving them the resources and opportunities to sustain themselves and their families. WGEF has positively changed the lives of so many people, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help in any way I can.

I have been volunteering with WGEF since it started and have been amazed at the change they are making in Uganda! I have seen women be transformed from timid, sad women looking for a handout, to strong, confident business women! They don't just provide a loan to get women started, they provide support and encouragement to empower women to succeed and better the lives of their families. It is truly amazing to work with this organization.

Grace, a widow I met in Uganda before WGEF began working there, was a quiet, sad woman who always was wondering what people would give her. Two years later, she is confident, happy, and has improved the life of herself and her daughter. Not only does she run a successful business thanks to a WGEF loan, but she is also a peer counselor, helping other women who are starting their businesses to succeed. The transformation is incredible!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Grow their programs so that more women can be positively impacted!

In the short time I have worked with WGEF, I have been personally inspired by the work that they are able to accomplish. Karen Sugar and the staff of WGEF has been able to change the everyday lives of women and their families in a way that many of us take for granted.

I originally began
with WGEF as a way to receive credit for a class through volunteering. I stayed because I believe in the mission of WGEF. A world wide issue has been brought to a local level in the small way one can change a life. I have also reviewed other microfinance models and it cannot be unsaid that the Credit Plus model is superior among the rest.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the joy and significant change it has brought to clients and the area of Gulu, Uganda.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

hope that people would become more aware of this amazing organization and to continue supporting the lives of others around the world.
