In order for these women and girls to have access to the full range of reproductive choices, Women''s Emergency Network provides unbiased options counseling, education about routine birth control and emergency contraception, referrals to ongoing health care and social services as needed, and, for those who choose to terminate, financial subsidies for abortion and related reproductive health care.

Each year, WEN provides approximately 800 of these women and girls counseling to explore their options and feelings. For the minority who choose to continue their pregnancies, WEN makes referrals to the best low-cost prenatal care, and when necessary, to reputable adoption agencies. For those who choose to terminate the pregnancy, WEN subsidizes the cost of a safe abortion with South Florida's most respected clinics. All clients receive birth control counseling, safe sex edcation and, as needed, referrals for future care.

Every day the mail brings requests for donations, most of them urgent and worthwhile. The Women's Emergency Network is at the top of my list because it is small, with a clearly defined purpose. It has no grandiose slogans or mailings, and its staff of volunteers are filled with integrity. I trust WEN and believe in its good work.

I have been an Administrative Assistant for the past 5 years for WEN. Over the years I have personally seen the help WEN has given to low-income and indigent women and girls. With WEN's support, financially and emotionally these women and young girls are able to make a choice and go on with their life. Without the assistance of funds for abortions and counselling for affective birth control these women would be lost in a predictable cyle of hopelessness.
