As an invited writer, I accompanied the W4WH team on a medical mission to Cuenca, Ecuador where the goal was to do cleft lip/cleft palate surgeries on children, most from indigenous tribes in Ecuador. The team of women worked tirelessly and cheerfully, selflessly, to make these children whole again. I have rarely been so impressed by such collaborative teamwork and an outpouring of love and compassion accompanied by tremendous medical skills. I think this trip changed my life, these women changed my perception of what was possible in terms of humanitarian efforts, and they received no reward or recognition - just the knowledge they had worked together at the highest levels to bring hope and health to children who would otherwise have little chance to thrive in life.

They regularly go on these medical missions, giving up their own valuable family and vacation time - I hope to go with them on another mission in December, 2010, this time to Sierra Leone.

I am an assistant to the president and founder of women for world health. she has opened my eyes to the needs of the children in remote areas of the world that need our medical attention. This organization changes lives for so many. I am truly blessed to be involved.
