Woman Made Gallery is a very special arts organization in Chicago. The shows and openings are always welcoming and inspiring. The artists and members you meet are always friendly with a unique story to share about what brought them to WMG. Each time I come to the gallery I know that I will leave having learned or seen something new. It is inspiring to know that there is a place in Chicago that brings together so many unique individuals. If you have not stopped in or checked WMG out on the web I highly recommend that you do!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have been a member for 5 years and now also serve on the board and marketing committee.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Encourage more artists to join and participate. I would help spread the story behind WMG gallery through marketing, Thus hopefully growing the organization through awareness.

I have been participating in events at Woman Made Gallery as an artist and volunteer for at least 15 years. Beate is a wonderful mentor and supporter of women artists and the programming offered at WMG is exceptionally helpful in advancing careers and helping artists make connections. I have personally participated in many group shows and was offered the opportunity for a solo show at the gallery after Beate suggested that I was ready. She has been an important advocate of my work and has provided support to advance my career.

I have had many opportunities to show my work in a professional space and work with women of like mind. The comraderie, education, and support for artists is very important and WMG has provided this service for many years.

I would not make changes, but help is always needed financially and with volunteers.

Woman Made Gallery promotes Art by, for and about women. Located just north of the Chicago Loop, it exhibits juried art in thematic shows throughout the year. It sponsors other art events such as poetry readings, workshops and discussion groups. WMG gives exposure to many emerging and established artists and gives the community the opportunity to explore important issues. WMG has been serving the community since 1992, with an efficient and dedicated staff. The Gallery holds fabulous Friday night openings for each of its shows that showcase the artists and their art. These are wonderful events. I highly recommend WMG!

Woman Made Gallery is an exceptionally well-run organization that keeps overhead to a minimum and maximizes benefits to the arts community. The gallery puts up cutting edge, high quality exhibits featuring talented woman artists from around the world who might otherwise have difficulty finding a quality place to show their work.

I have had my art work accepted for three shows at the Woman Made Gallery. The staff there is so supportive of artists! WMG provides an artist many opportunities: from showing work to specialized seminars providing knowledge on many subjects from how to get your work shown to critiquing work. When I was first looking for a gallery to enter my work, I was immediately drawn to WMG as a welcoming and grounded organization. WMG has been a guide for me in the past and I will continue to support them in the years ahead!

They are doing an amazing job, especially in light of the current economy, when other galleries are having to close.

I am an artist whose work was in the group exhibition "The American Dream: A Juxtaposition" which ran from Jan. 21 to Feb. 24, 2001. This was my first show with Woman Made Gallery, and they were professional and helpful from the beginning of the process all the way through the return of the art work. For instance, when my original piece of art was lost during shipping, they worked patiently and kindly with me to ensure that a second shipment was received and available for the show as planned. I am a big fan of their work and mission, and my own work is being taken more seriously now that I have exhibited with this quality, well-respected arts institution. Woman Made Gallery is great for the artists who exhibit there, and also great for the public which (in my opinion) doesn't have enough venues to see quality work by women artists.

As stated, my own work is being taken more seriously now that I have exhibited with this quality, well-respected arts institution. Thank you, Woman Made Gallery for helping further my photographic and artistic career.

I would suggest that they consider a "franchise" model -- and open up sister galleries in other major metropolitan areas (e.g., Woman Made New York, Woman Made Los Angeles). Quality galleries featuring the work of women are in short supply in a male-dominated art world, art market, and art review/criticism. The best change that Woman Made could make would be to expand its successful model to other art centers in the country.

Woman Made Made Gallery is very unique.

Each show is a group show which provides lots of opportunity for women artists from around the world to show artwork in a professional space that many younger and / or unrecognized artists might not ordinarily have. While progress has been made, It
is still true today that woman artists remain largely unrepresented in galleries. The group show model also makes the shows more interesting and exposes people to more artists at one time than the typical gallery.

Woman Made also provides that same opportunity for curators -- each show is curated by a different curator which gives the Gallery a rich diversity in the type of work that is shown. This means that Woman Made impacts a very large group of people, this diversity is also wonderful for people who visit the gallery.

Woman made hosts workshops that give artists skills, information, and the opportunity to connect with other artists and professionals in the field which helps artists to develop their careers. Poetry readings are also a part of every show which helps to bring new audiences into the Gallery and serve to inspire all those who attend.

I have shown at Woman Made 3 times and it has been a great experience, I am grateful for this organization!

I think this organization is great. Maybe they could expand to have a small storefront gallery, window display, or some type of presence in an area where there is more art gallery foot traffic that way people would become aware of this fantastic organization. More people should know about Woman Made!

As a professional artist, Woman Made Gallery has provided several juried exhibitions to which I can submit work. Having been accepted into shows at this prestigious location means that I have an out-of-state line on my resume and that lots of people have been exposed to my work who otherwise wouldn't have been.
