As the Executive Director for the West Texas Historical Assn and a senior administrator for the Southwest Collection archive at Texas Tech University the Wolf Creek Museum in Lipscomb is one of the crown jewels of the museum world. They possess top-notch exhibits, a vibrant educational programs and community outreach initiatives, cutting edge on-line access to staff and images, and a staff that remembers that personal touch and interaction makes all of the difference with patrons, donors, and out of state visitors. Having seen 95% percent of the West Texas museums (west of I35) without a doubt the Wolf Creek Museum ranks in the top five and it is my personal favorite. This museum has done much to rekindle the impetus for public history awareness throughout the region and it has inspired me on a personal level.

The Wolf Creek Heritage Museum is one of the best small museums in our 52 county area of the Texas Panhandle. It tells the story of our region from the beginning of white people settleing the area to present day. The displays are done in such a fashion that they tell the story in appreance,-- you do not have to stand and read to "get it".

I have attend several programs that this museum has sponsered and they are always educational and enjoyable. I always reconmend this museum to visitors at our local museum or friends visiting in our area as being one of the best in our area.

As Regional Director of the Texas Plains Trail Region, I have the privilege to visit over 75 museums in the area, all of which hold great historic treasures. I can say, without doubt, that the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum in Lipscomb, Texas is a rare gem amongst those treasures. A leisurely stroll around the square is a unique experience where on most days you will find wild turkeys running around on the Lipscomb County Courthouse lawn, a cowboy poet and storyteller in the Beeson Saddle Shop, and an outdoor platform where many a boot has been scooted. Yes, Lipscomb is a much-welcomed respite from the hurry-scurry world that many of us have grown accustomed. Virginia Scott, Director of the Wolf Creek Museum, is an extraordinary woman who, along with her tireless helpers, have found creative ways to develop exhiibits to share the fascinating history of the area. Although tucked away in the Northern corner of the Texas Panhandle, a trip to the museum is assuredly one that will remain in your memory banks for a long time. You will come away with a great appreciation for the land, its people, and their history.

I volunteer at the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum once or twice a week.

Enjoy working there, as it a clean well organized museum. The other volunteers are a charm to work with.

My job is to index all of our obituaries that we have on file by town and states. There are approximately 10
volumns now and continue to grow.

The grounds are so pretty in the spring and summer, as the flower beds are full of bloom with all different kinds and the trees are growing so there will be more shade to the building.

There is a reception once a month for the honored artist of the month, so cookies, punch and coffee are brought by the volunteers. A great museum.

All of the work is done by everyone. The first of this month was spent hanging the art work of the county school children on display for 2 months. They just published a Volumn 2 book for Lipscomb County, and everyone worked on it. A very informing book.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would complete the paper work on each item, before I started on another one.

The Wolf Creek Heritage Museum is an excellent facility which tells the story of the pioneers who setteled the area of Lipscomb County, Texas. They have gathered many items which accurately tell stories of the people and their work to make their way in the world. We have been pleased to be able to donate items to this museum to preserve the story of our family and of the families who we knew and grew up with in this area.

It is a very good musuem with excellent exhibits and many volunteers who make a strong organization.

For such a small community, the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum is a diamond in the rough. It far surpasses what is typically expected of a small-town museum and represents not only the history of the area but of the people who continue to make this museum and this community a stand out destination.

I'd like to make the building more of a destination itself. It's a steel building with few defining elements but when you have a museum that tells a story through design and ingenuity, it truly becomes a destination.

my husband and I retired to Lipscomb County after 30 + years of medical and nursing careers in large urban cities. The serenity that Lipscomb offered was just what we needed to rejuvenate. It wasn't too long before we discovered the museum and their activities with the county historical commission. Annual heritage observances and monthly reception or programs along with regular exhibits are eagerly anticipated. The museum and commission recently published the second volume of the county history book to add to the library of six publications published by the museum .
the museum serves as the cultural center of the county with historical and artistic exhibits year around.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the friendships of county residents, opportunity to represent the organization at state and national meetings, exploring the history of the county. meeting artists and learning about art.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

only expand their reach and programs.
