Synchronicity led me to the WiserEarth site last year after reading about the conference in Copenhagen. Discovering this amazing resource has enabled me to offer a link for some of my clients, who I see in my capacity as an eco-psychotherapist. A sense of hopelessness and despair can be embodied by many people who feel powerless and frustrated when faced with our declining ecological systems. This embodiment can be manifest in obesity, depression and a variety of psychoses. WiserEarth acts as a container where people can interact and voice their concerns, offer solutions and generally feel valued by genuinely caring, compassionate people. It offers hope in these uncertain times. It has been an honour to be a small part of such a wonderful resource.

In terms of my therapeutic practice I recognise the value of such an arena to enable people to share their knowledge and feel part of a greater movement. People do feel isolated and alienated and as the collective consciousness reaches out there is a sense of belonging. There is a desire for change. We must 'be' the change.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would encourage colleges and schools to familiarise themselves with WiserEarth and include its use as part of the curriculum.

WiserEarth is an online community linking those who work to make our world more sustainable. I have been a member since September 2008. I have found that WiserEarth is a great opportunity to connect with other like minded individuals who are movers and shakers, all over the globe. I have shared my own writing, projects, and ideas and received invaluable feedback and support from colleagues around the world. WiserEarth charges no fees for its users. It provides an excellent supportive environment for me and others to move forward in healing the earth, to share our ingenuity, integrity, and innovation.

For the last 2 decades, I have been actively involved in the development and continual evolution of Internet based technologies for a number of very large corporate entities. With the onset of the new millennia, it became apparent to me that as the internet and its related systems continued to evolve, many of the actions and behaviours that we associate with the human condition had transposed themselves onto this infrastructure. It became equally clear that that the inequities between the privileged and the under privileged were in many ways accelerated by the advent of this new virtual world. And the concerns that we have always had for human rights and social justice were applicable to this evolving new world in the same ways that they applied in the old one. Finding WiserEarth has been helpful in developing a rising level of awareness and communicating those concerns to a broader and attentive audience. Far more so than the more frivolous applications of most public social networks. I applaud all those involved with the WiserEarth organization and sincerely believe it is a model that needs to be both followed and expanded as we move into the second decade of this new millennia.

Wiser Earth is a unique social site where activists of all backgrounds can gather and collaborate, share and network with others of similar interests. My personal experience with Wiser Earth has been positive and has helped broaden our effectiveness as activists in the sustainability movement. We have had our little collective farm in South East Texas for over 30 years and through Wiser Earth we have expanded tremendously in breath and scope. Connections made on Wiser Earth with other sustainability activists have enriched our world with knowledge and practical application of technology in our efforts to educate the general public in our immediate area of influence. We have found new relationships, new answers and an abundance of gentle souls willing to share their own experiences. The editorial and support staff could not possibly be more accommodating and supportive. Every step of the way of our experience on Wiser Earth has found us with the support and encouragement of the staff. We at Sba Farms Collective have found Wiser Earth both a home and a resource that is welcoming and empowering in ways that we can not imagine doing without now. We rely on Wiser Earth for feedback, input and suggestion on an almost daily basis. It is a pleasure to work within the construct of such a dedicated and substantive organization. Peace and Light.

Our administration of our collective has changed dramatically since our membership in Wiser Earth. Our style of consensus building has been transformed into a much more egalitarian system and has been a tremendous benefit to our entire collective.

I would not make any specific changes to Wiser Earth at all. I would love to see it continue to grow, steadily, and with the sense of community spreading and leadership continuing to be the kind and generous individuals they are.

WiserEarth (WE) is a social network platform that uniquely caters for non profits, the green and sustainability movements. It brings together many players in this field and has powerful tools for presentation and collaboration. It allows better display of content than Facebook or Myspace, however, the power of it has not been fully utilized by the global community. WE has great potential which hasn't been really tapped into. Hopefully, in future, more people will realize the benefits WE can provide for individuals and organizations. So please, if you are in need for collaboration with the global sustainability movement give WE a try, if you haven't done so. The web tools are based on open source software which is in line with a collaborative community. To move forward into the information age, enabling better cooperation and communication between positive change agents is the best thing to do, and that is what WE is doing. From my own personal perspective, it proved to be useful in promoting a new civilization structure which can be seen here: http://www.wiserearth.org/group/globalleaderciv

WiserEarth has and is still the best social networking site where information is quickly shared The management of wiserearth are really working well to keep people informed about development (be it in the ICTs, Agriculture, Climate change, Peace, democracy, in general the MDGs are well tackled by the wiserearth members

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The ICTs characterized by the Internet and computer are having a great impact in our society in general. I have been able to share and gain knowledge from online members of wiserearth where there is no online network group that gives up-to-date information as wiserearth.

Encourage people to create their blogs with links to wiserearth social network website

More feedback...

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Definitely

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Quite well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Likely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

We are having the will to work with the many intronautes connected to wiserearth but the there is the lack of material and internet connection. Working from public cyber cafés makes it difficult for us to post our videos and pictures, where we know that videos and pictures plays an important role in the ICTs and communication. Supporting us with more training especially in the ICTs development.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I am now encouraged to research on topics that investigate about development and always ready to join all the social groups connected tto wiserearth and advocating about the MDGs Also with our spirit of create-as-we-move and the skills gained from the various members of wiserearth there is the need for us to gain more knowledge and friends where the end result is development and peace among the global citizens

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Working with people from different background and culture makes me feel that unity of one world one people. Also with no speciall skills or training gained from any formal education , I am seeing that my create-as- I- move idea is greatly helping in many community development and the achievement of the MDGs This is still an ongoing event

Perhaps Paul Hawken can recall the time several years ago we spoke by telephone. As I recall, it was in the earliest years of Century XXI. At that time I expressed my thanks for the inspiration his work was giving to my own work......The AWAREness Campaign on The Human Population, established 2001. Wiser Earth is engaged in some of the most difficult work occurring our time by calling out for intellectual honesty, moral courage, personal accountability and for open speech about what is somehow true as each of us is given 'the lights' to see what could possibly be real. Are these distinctly human characteristics not at least some of the personal hallmarks of wisdom? Perhaps the difficult work that the Wiser Earth community is doing so well can be advanced now here. Can members of Wiser Earth please point to one piece of scientific research by a population biologist, human ecologist or demographer you respect that adequately challenges the evidence of Hopfenberg and Pimentel: that human population dynamics is essentially similar to the population dynamics of other species...both great and small? Many too many experts have not yet so much as advanced to the point where they acknowledge this single point. Their research uniformly uses psuedoscientific or, should I say, unscientific evidence for explaining, however unnaturally and unpersuasively, that human population dynamics is different from the population dynamics of non-human species. What many experts have been referring to for many years as 'scientific' evidence is directly contradicted by unchallenged scientific research of Russell Hopfenberg and David Pimentel. Something is very wrong. I believe experts in demography, for example, are best situated with the economists, whose work is fundamentally induced and driven by ideology, not science. I would like to argue that what passes for a 'scientific' foundation in both demography and economics is not, definitely not science. There are others than myself who have already pointed out that demography and economics are basically ideological-forced, human inventions and, therefore, basically flawed just as are any other manmade designs and constructions now present within our planetary home. The Creation is the appropriate focus of science; manmade works are objects of inquiry within domains like demography and economics, I believe. There is a wondrous effort being made by the Wiser Earth community. Thank to all of you for being there just as you are. The demographers and not unexpectedly the economists are nowhere to be found in discussions of this kind. Silence has been perversely allowed not only to prevail but also to vanquish science. I am 65 years old. During that time it appears to me that experts in human population dynamics and human overpopulation of the Earth have not seen, and if they have seen, not reported the best available science of human population dynamics. Many have permitted admitted complexity in the world we inhabit to blind them from the sight of something comparatively simple. They seem to have paid careful attention to 'the trees' and lost sight of the bigger and simpler picture, 'the forest'. They carefully examined human reproduction in this place or that; but they failed time after time to so much as look at population dynamics leading to the propagation of 3+ billion additional human beings joining the family of humanity in my lifetime. Human population numbers have more than doubled in the past 65 years. With something having such profound implications happening before our eyes, how has this research not sensibly be done. It appears that we are called upon to do this difficult work. If experts do see what we have been discussing and yet refuse to speak, then that appears to me as a cover-up of science with silence. Sincerely, Steve

Silos can be a pain in the rear; everyone doing their own thing, trying to fix what needs fixing in their own silo. There really isn’t a one-stop shopping center for looking at all the silos in one place and seeing how they should or might connect. WiserEarth, so far comes as close to that place as any. World (earth) has really been messed up by we humans, one mess after another and it’s time we start putting all the messed together to get a better picture of what we are confronted with – as the illustrious cartoon figure Pogo pointed out so may, many years ago, “we have met the enemy and the enemy is us.” OK, so far, so good. Now what do we do with “us”? Getting together and doing something about “us” is the order of the day and WiserEarth (WE) is one of the few places on earth to do just that.

I’m a WE editor, been at it for years, was one of the first to get titled as an “editor” and have seen the progress of WE in fits and starts – like anything that is in the development process its how things get developed. There’s a need for what WE is doing, we don’t know what the end result might be, but I think WE is on the right path – trail blazing at times can be very hard.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Changes are constantly being made at WE; it’s a network of people trying to figure out what needs to be done. This is not an organization, it’s a network that really has no defined agenda, its more of a change agent in itself. So change is really what it promotes – so how do to change change?

I joined WiserEarth in September of 2010, and have met and communicated with individuals from all parts of the world through this social network since that time. This provides me with a much richer community of similar minded people than I find just in my home community of St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The tools at WiserEarth have allowed me to create a discussion group on the topic of "Internet Access For Everyone," and within this discussion group, a couple of wikipages on "Plan for Worldwide Demilitarization" and "Propose/Appraise Carbon Tax." The interaction through these tools helps me feel connected to a larger whole that is exploring ways to engage in non-violent system-level change. It would be nice to see larger numbers of people participating in these discussion groups. On the other hand, all social networking over the Internet, especially within the social change movement, is still in a very early stage of development. Perhaps everything that is happening is right on time.

I am the main functioning Trustee of a reforestation project that works around and on a previously entirely denuded sacred mountain in South India. I am writing to give testimony to the value of WiserEarth because this is by far the most helpful platform for networking globally in contribution towards the restoration of our ecology - which happens to be the main concern of many of us at this time in history. However the domain of good influence of WiserEarth is much wider than this focused arena and i have experience of its value in other domains also, in very much wiser connections among artists, writers, designers - the number of networking groups and the territories they cover is quite astonishing, as is the activity that presents from one week to another and the speedy response provided to any question put online. I have been a member for about two years and am exceedingly encouraged by the wealth of understanding and convivial support offered through this portal.
