Review from Guidestar
January 25, 2012

WiserEarth is a great organization to volunteer with. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and the organization has a smart, innovative mission that I'm glad to be supporting. My specific volunteering role has been as a translator, and I've always felt that my work is appreciated. I also like the close, informal environment that is the result of a small core team with a wider network of volunteers. I think that people with an interest in environmentalism, social media, and/or translation would enjoy volunteering with WiserEarth as I have.

My volunteer experience with WiserEarth was exceptional. I felt welcomed and my skills appreciated. I was able to work directly with Katherine Bray the volunteer program intern and she was great at all times responding to my e-mails and offering extra help and resources to make my work easier. This great non-profit also rewarded me aside the great work they already do for the world with a book and a recommendation letter. I will work for WiserEarth again and again because I am interested in making a better world for all our future and WiserEarth shares that mission.

My volunteer experience with WiserEarth was exceptional. From the beginning I felt welcomed and supported by staff, interns, and other users. In a just a few weeks I felt like I was able to make an impact because of the unique community and encouragement I received. Furthermore, I made new connections, developed a few skills that I hadn't practiced before, and got to help in a movement I really care about. Overall a great experience that I would recommend to anyone!

Wiserearth is a vital project; without a home on the web the sustainability movement can't really move. Wiserearth seeks to be this home but has struggled to engage many ideas on how to go about this big task. I'm not sure I've been able to help. However the staff are great people, dedicated and warm. I wish them every success.

I have a few groups on WiserEarth that I keep track of, it's a non-pay job, but it's really a job. One group deals with population issues, another water, yet another education and of course the economy. It's mostly resource driven, find and posting stories, ideas, hopes and fears that come up when dealing with such massive problems and opportunities. I've found it helpful that WiserEarth offers this opportunity for local, regional, national and world issues that can be held in a commons of information sharing.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

sharing information to a wider group of people

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

It is changing everyday, so there's really no need to answer this question - it's an organization of change.

I look at the pictures of all the faces - colors - shapes and sizes. I see the places you come from all over the globe. i hear the same heartfelt underpinnings for hope and help offered no matter the voice - and I know I am in the right place amidst the company i would choose to keep. namaste.

Results have been personal to me so far - first in reading Paul Hawkins 2009 address - then finding this org - then joining this org - then researching and reading posts offered from members of this org. "The change i seek begins with me" and I choose educated opinions offered with heartfelt diversity for the betterment of all concerned. I see that here.

Not sure of that yet - I think any challenges to navigating the richness inherent here is likely to be my own lack of online saavy at this point. I expect that to fade with time and use.

Wiserearth is one of the top social online networking group where solutions and proposals are given to the various questions and enquiries as fast as possible.
For the time I have been volunteering for wiserearth I am always satisfied with the responds given to my enquiries and
questions
Also wiserearth members do resist to give us topic on ongoing activities and other challenging issues for us to debate on.

Through wiserearth I have gained much knowledge in the use of the ICTs and community development. Now I can many friends with whom we discurse on issues like community development, the use of the ICTs in community development, video editing, possible websites to use to post our pictures and videos directly from our celphones and many other important facts.

I will propose to the coordinator to see on how the videos can be posted directly to this website rather than to third parties before creating links

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Okay

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Likely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Our main problem with tis web site is the posting of videos especially when it concern us in the developing countries where the internet connection rate is still too low.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have gained much skills in the ICTs and now I am ready to introduce my friends to wiserearth.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

This volunteer has made me feels that there is much we can gain working directly with the various people especially through the use of the ICTs in community development and applied learning.

Having worked for membership organisations for many years, I've had an active interest in on-line social networking ever since they began to emerge in broadly accessible ways. I believe WiserEarth is the most effective network worldwide for building collective awareness and sharing knowledge and experience amongst the millions who are focussed on social justice and stewardship of the earth. The site has both the critical mass and the concentration of energy to be highly effective, and I believe the best is yet to come.

Having worked for many years putting together a set of proposals for a new kind of social / political / economic system, last March (of 2010) I found myself ready to begin discussing the ideas with "others of like mind". My search for such a community led me to WiserEarth, and so far it remains for me the best I have found -- both the people and the platform are outstandingly exceptional.
