Bird Haven is amazing! They have rescued so many parrots, are always careful to quarantine the new birds and go the extra mile for each bird. De, the director, has a unique talent with parrots and works hard to help those birds with behavior problems. She truly cares about the birds and provides them individual attention every day. Adopting parents are screened carefully to ensure they are a good match with the parrot and will provide the parrot with a loving home. I HIGHLY recommend this charity!

Bird Haven is dedicated not only to rescuing parrots and finding them loving homes, but also to educating parrot owners on training their birds. De is excellent at helping troubled birds overcome their issues. She truly loves all the birds that come through the center and helps to find them a great forever home where they will be loved and cared for.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I rescued 2 yellow naped amazon parrots and had them as pets for over 10 years. But, they never bonded with me and then my scheduled changed where I was out of town more often than I was home. I decided it was time to give the birds an opportunity to bond with someone and to have the attention they truly deserved. De accepted the two birds, worked with them to help them acclimate to their new setting as well as learn new tricks. She found each of them a home and both are now blissfully happy. :-)

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help them get more funding so they could rescue more birds.

In Dec. 2010 I inquired about adopting an Africian grey. Well as it happened De had a rescue of a "package deal" I was like huh me I could never own a Macaw! The deal was these two birds ha to stay togetther it was and african grey AND a catalina macaw! I fostered them for a short period and then decided I could bar to let them go. So we fully adopted them. De was a great help with the ins and outs of keeping these birds safe in an enviroment that these BEAUTIFUL animals deserve!

I called to inquire about rescuing a parakeet and spent time talking with De. She asked me questions that helped not only her but myself realize how open I was to adopting a parrot. She introduced me to Taz, a nine year old quaker parrot who has brought such a joy to my household. I feel so thankful that De made such a wonderful match. She is a very gifted and caring individual. The bird world is lucky to have her.

I first came across this charity because I was interested in adopting a parrot. Later as I became more involved in a role of board member because we share similar idea of saving life. The founder - De, who has helped many pet birds rehabilitation and re-home. I am grateful for people like De to step out and providing TLC to those animals.

Wings of Love is well organized, dedicated, educational and commited to caring for the birds that it takes in. Dee is truly an amazing human being. She works tirelessley and is so comitted to the health and welfare of the birds she takes in and allows to be adopted from the rescue. I've adopted two parrots from this organization and just can't say enough good things.

WINGS OF LOVE is a necessity due to the misfortune of these birds, through no fault of their own. Most people do not think about the fact that many of these birds outlive dogs many times over. De has the perfect temperment, personality, and outlook for this important work. I am very thankful this organization exists and hope that the need for it will decrease at some point in the future. Until then, I encourage anyone who can help with support in any way, will do so as soon as possible.

About two years ago I had to leave Dallas for professional reasons. We were the happy owners of a wonderful black headed Caique, called Ravi. Our new journey would take us to the Hawaiian Island of Maui, while filling out paperwork for our two dogs Lola and Kasimir and our cockatiel Pancho, we soon realized that Ravi was on the not allowed avian list. This was a shock to us. My husband had already signed the contract for his new job and saved guaranteed his position for the next two years.
We were very sad and frustrated, we did not know what to do. I tried to call the Dallas Zoo, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Dallas Aquarium and inquire about options to donate Ravi. I am from Europe, I had some friends in Dallas, but mostly dog lovers without any avian experience.
DeAnn from Bird Haven was the only one able and willing to help. She arranged a board meeting, Ravi's case was discussed and shortly before I left I was able to foster him at her avian sanctuary. By now he was successfully adopted out and so she tells me, loves his new parents. It is still heart breaking for me, but I should have his happiness in mind. I just hope one day, I can see him again and let him know that I love him.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

getting e mail updates and pictures about Ravi's well being! I have personally visited the avian sites and was very impressed by their superb standards and quality of care.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

put bird owners more in charge of their decision to make sure that wonderful and precious birds do NOT end up with the wrong owners. I would not know at this point what to change about Bird Haven.

Earlier this year I adopted Sonny and Cher through Wings of Love Bird Haven. De walked me through becoming educated BEFORE I went to pick up my babies. She worked to make sure that I was making an educated decision to make the transition not just good for the babies, but also for my family. I had the chance to meet De and think that she is an amazing woman who works very hard for the birds.
If I lived closer I would so be there to lend a hand to her.

This is a fantastic group to work with. It is all about what is best for the birds. From starting in Quarantine, to daily diet, to finding the perfect home.

I have worked with them to get the word out in the Avian Community for almost two years now. From setting up cage donations to fund
raising when possible De does it all for the birds. And she makes the little bit of money go a very long way.

Wings of Love Bird Haven is a wonderful resource for both birds and people.
