weSPARK Cancer Support Center

I live in northern California, and have been involved with weSPARK for the past several years. I am impressed with the organization.....so much so that I have attended several local southern California events, as well as the 2011 WE trip to Honduras to visit the Adelante Foundation and its clients. I plan to continue to stay involved, and strongly believe in its mission. Thank you, Wendy Haydon

After some resistance to the idea, my son began attending support groups at weSpark while he was going through chemotherapy for advanced colon cancer. The support he got, and in some cases the support he was able to give to others in the groups, meant a great deal to him. Although, at times he felt too sick to do anything else, he wanted to attend. In December, shortly before he died, and in a very weak condition, it was important to him to get to weSpark in order to say thank you and goodbye. His request to family and friends was, in lieu of flowers etc. and in his memory, to please make a donation to weSpark. I'm very grateful for the existence of weSpark, and their amazing facilitators, who create this much needed support.

We Spark was there for me as a cancer patient. I returned to We Spark for a support group when my husband passed from cancer. The therapist and group were wonderful we were there for each other.

WeSPARK provides help to all those affected by cancer and it is especially nice if you can consider them local to you. There are many support type organizations but WeSPARK is the only one I have ever seen in the lobby of my oncologist.

I have been a founding member, board member and guest since weSPARK's inception in 2000. As a founding member, I have watched weSPARK grow from a small group of people sitting around our founder Wendie Jo Sperber's dining room table to an organization that helps many people who are battling or supporting warriors against cancer. As a guest, I used the weSPARK facilities as I battled malignant colon cancer. They were literally lifesavers. Asking nothing in return, they gave me the knowledge and hope to get better. And finally, as a board member, I am honored to be able to take part in the day to day fundraising for this incredible organization. It is necessary to so many people in the Los Angeles area. May it last forever or until their is no more cancer in anybody's life.

I was one of the founding members of Wendie Jo Sperber's dream. Little did I know when weSPARK began that I would become a "guest". In 1999, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Surgery followed along with 6 months of chemotherapy. In October, I will be cancer free for 10 years. weSPARK has stayed by my side during these last 10 years with constant support. I don't know what I would have done without them, and enjoy working for them in helping others.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The staff makes you feel totally at home. The weSPARK experience is filled with love, education and compassion.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
become national and not just local. The weSPARK Cancer Support Center would be available to all in need across America.

I have been to weSPARK while a patient, and as the (consulting) creative director at the National Cancer Inst. The weSPARK staff is never too busy to provide assistance, comfort and education, and the center has some of the best community outreach and fundraisers I've seen. They also serve as the "bricks and mortar" meet up space for the adolescent and young adult cancer support .org I2Y - bravo weSPARK!

I have been working with weSPARK Cancer Support Center since the beginning. For anyone who is on the journey with cancer, post cancer or whose family is traveling that road with them, we SPARK is the place to go. Varied and helpful programs await, and a warm, experienced staff to help guide them. LA doesn't have any other place like it. I'm thrilled to have been a part of and continue to be to this day. Their founder was a close, close personal friend, and she would be happy and proud that this is her legacy.~ Barbara Epstein

WeSpark is one of the most important places I found to help me with my on-going Metastatic Breast Cancer. Reflexology, hypnosis, acupuncture, counseling are the main services they provided me and others like me. All of these things have helped me, more than five years after the recurrence of breast cancer, have the energy and healthy appearance that causes most people to completely doubt I have anything wrong with me. Although my income is small now, I still like to drop money into the giving box to help those who follow me and those who stand beside me in our desire to have a healthy (and fun) life. WeSpark is so important to me I've even taught an art class there for other "Sparkees".

My daughter Carlen Johnson is a volunteer at weSpark and has been for the last 4 years..from her freshman year in High School till now her senior year. I have seen first hand what a wonderful experience it is for all who are on this challenging path. The classes and workshops they offer are healing and the staff is so kind and helpful. She works with the children that have been affected by Cancer. She has grown as a young woman with the help of the staff and the leader of them all Nancy Allen. Under the guidance and leadership of Nancy she has become a caring young woman. The acceptance and love the staff shares with everyone who walks through the door is like no other. i am very proud to say my daughter is a wespark volunteer and because of this incredible organization I believe Carlen will have a life of service and will never forget where it all began. Thank you wespark and Nancy Allen for making this life changing experience happen for my beautiful daughter.
