Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts
Invite reviews
WALA lawyers generously donate their time and expertise to help advance the goals of artists in the DC area. The workshops and clinics are a very valuable resource for artists and authors who have legal questions, need guidance, or just want more information about a variety of topics that impact their work. WALA welcomes all artists, maintains very organized communications channels, and holds networking events.

This is a GREAT organization. It was recommended to me by Ken Kaufman of Manatt Philips and the non-profit has delivered ten-fold. I'm having some questions about our music in our film score, and both WALA and the law firm Manatt have been professional, kind, expedient, and supportive in all of their phone calls, emails, and letters to me. If there were an Olympic gold medal competition in the category of legal assistance to non-profits, they would win a gold medal every time. Go team WALA

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
their professionalism, candor, and sense of humor. I mean, I AM working with nuns in the film, Women of Mystery, Women of Hope -- a film short about a day in the life of nuns -- and their kindness is matched by WALA.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
excellent, professional, and candid
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
help more artists and artistic non-profits create GREAT culture that would in turn inspire our society to look to the arts, music, film, theatre, poetry, operas, orchestral performances for plays for inspiration, for courage, for motivation, for hope.
Ways to make it better...
I do not think the experience could be better, but I think MORE people and organizations should know what a terrific job you do!
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
getting the word out about how GREAT they are
One thing I'd also say is that...
I never thought such a talented and professional group of people were assembled in one non-profit. Ken Kaufman is a saint.

I sought WALA's help when I had a confusing tax question regarding my art business income. WALA responded quickly with a lawyer who went above and beyond to provide the right advice for an outcome that was successful and satisfactory to all. I consider WALA a DC resource for the arts community of the highest professional caliber.
