I was fortunate to have worked at VOA-Sacramento because I was able to see their mission statement in action "to reach and uplift all people". Words cannot express how many clients are served and lives changed. I worked with the homeless population and experienced so much love at VOA from the staff. They go above the call of duty! As a matter of fact, I still hang around as a volunteer. This shows how this agency is doing their part in helping others to grow.

Made sure they had all the money that is needed to serve their clients and provide raises for all the staff.

I was delighted to become involved with Volunteers of America when I moved to Reno last year. As a new Reno resident, I was looking for meaningful volunteer work for an organization that makes a real difference in our community. Since becoming a donor, volunteer and Northern Nevada advisory council member, I have enjoyed wonderful experiences at the shelter programs, an Artown exhibit displaying beautiful art created by program clients, and made lifelong friends. I look forward to partnering with Volunteers of America for years to come as we work together to help make a better future for the people we serve.

As a volunteer and advisory council member since 2010, I have been impressed and deeply touched by the shelter programs of Volunteers of America in Northern Nevada. Staff are caring and professional, and the programs offer so much more than a place to sleep. Shelter residents attend classes and work on goals designed to help them reach a state of productive independence. Enrichment activites including art, poetry and monthly birthday parties for children residing at the Family Shelter offer invaluable experiences for residents and help give them a reason to hope for a brighter future. Volunteers of America is a blessing to our community and to our country.

I can only speak of the reno/ northern california area of this agency , however that having been said, I have never experienced such unethical and ilegal behavior as I have in the homeless services branch of this org. employees are treated poorly , clients are treated poorly, funds are mis-managed and staff are poorly trained and supervised. I strongly encourage folks to find another charity to give their hard earned money to at least until they can make some changes in leadership...

In better times I have given freely to a variety of charities but in today's economy I find myself in the position of needing charity myself. Very few charities manage their funds more responsibly or give of themselves more freely then the VOA. I am a veteran and speaking on behalf of many veterans who find themselves faced with homelessness and an uncaring society the VOA stands out as a beacon of hope. The services they offer to veterns of all ages gives us reason for hope and the positive environment we most desperately need. I only wish the VA did half as much for our veterans faced with homelessness as does the VOA.

Gee whiz! I am not sure what more the organization itself can do - but I strongly believe that more people in general need to know about the work this organization does and the good that they do - I sincerely wish more resources could be provided to them from the general public and businesses.

I have known about the VOA since I served on the BoD of directors for the regional Red Cross in Georgia. I have referred many folks to seek out their assistance and without exception they have all been thankful that such an organization exists.
