Mission: The “Voices of Survivors Foundation” is devoted to exploring ‘Survivorship’ and what that means to the individual ‘Survivor’, whether they are recently diagnosed, undergoing treatment or post-treatment, in a variety of documentary formats. We work with other individuals and organizations collaboratively on a variety of projects to further this exploration. The face of cancer is one that the has been portrayed as that of only older people and children for so long but that face is not reflective of whom cancer truly affects. Cancer affects us all and each person who deals with this has their own definition of what being a ‘Survivor’ means. The “Voices of Survivors Foundation” is a federally registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.
Results: We have grown to over 200k site visits per month on the website. ‘Survivors’ from all over the world including, Africa, Australia, India, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico and many other places have shared their ‘voice’ with the “Voices of Survivors Foundation”. We are a member of the LiveStrong Global Cancer Summit and the LiveStrong Young Adult Alliance.

After I was first diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2000, I found myself looking for other survivors or for an organization that would give support and hope to cancer survivors. An organization that I found, and I have been working for as a volunteer, is the Canadian Cancer Society, especially being involved with the 'Survivors Tent', at the annual 'Relay for Life' events in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. Going on to Facebook has allowed me to connect with other survivors, and finding Mr Lynn Lane and his 'Voices of Survivors' was like a miracle. This has given me the opportunity to be able to read the stories of all the wonderful survivors, and it has given me strength and hope to carry on. As well, through the eye's of a survivor, I know that Mr Lane has given so many others, a 'Voice'.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Reading about the strength and hope that cancer survivors give as they converse with Mr. Lane about their experiences of Hospitals and Doctors in other parts of the world.

Voices of Survivors is a fantastic organization and they literally give a VOICE to cancer survivors so we can really show our family and friends what life is, day in, day out, for a cancer survivor.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Compiling my thoughts about what it is to be a survivor. When friends and family ask what cancer survivorship means to me, I'll have a well-worded statement to give them and they'll know how this is to me.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Reading my friends stories, hearing their thoughts and being able to share my poetry

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! So Supportive! It is amazing that Lynn Lane represented Voices of Survivors in Ireland!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Give a voice to EVERY cancer survivor, and let the public know about ALL the different types of people... young, old, black, white, doctors, factory employees, children, teenagers...who battle cancer, some every day of their lives.

This is a great foundation in that it lets people who have experienced cancer tell their story so that other people know and learn of cancer in this world. It lets the survivors tell how they overcame an obstacle in their life which gives courage and hope to those going through the same thing. It gives others inspiration to step up and do something for themselves and others.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand out into the world,to let other people know about the foundation that might now know about it.

Any organization, be it a for-profit or a non-profit, is only as good as its leaders. Successful organizations have leaders that can develop marketable ideas and execute them. This organization, founded by Lynn Lane, will have a long and successful future because Mr. Lane has the experience and foresight to surround himself with the best talent in the market. I agreed to be featured on Mr. Lane's "Voices of Survivors" project because I believed he had an tremendous idea which would appeal to, not only cancer survivors, but all survivors of trumatic events. Further, Mr. Lane's talent, drive and utter determination to develop this Foundation to its full potential is immeasurable. I've recommended the website to every cancer patient I know and the postive responses have been overwhelming. It's inspirational, uplifting and provides a sense of community, comraderie and hope among its viewers. With Mr. Lane's guidance, this Foundation will exceed all expectations. I'm confident of this.

reach out to many more people and be of inspiration to them.

My experience of VOS has been ongoing since I first encountered its founder Lynn Lane at the Lance Armstrong LiveSTRONG Global Cancer Forum in 2009. Lynn's personal and profession commitment to making the voice of survivors heard everywhere has inspired and motivated me since then.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Its global reach.

Voices of Survivors is an incredible organization that gives a "voice" to cancer survivors around the world. The sharing of stories and blending of experiences is an important aspect of living with cancer and surviving after a diagnosis. For those who are fighting, it is imperative. For those who have survived, empowering! Voices provides a venue of inspiration, movitation, and encouragement through the written words, videos, and conversations of survivors. I have been able to share my tory in both the written word and through a personal video. It feels wonderful to share with others that challenges can be conquered and that a stage IV diagnosis doesn't have to be a death sentence, but instead a testimony to survival. Voices of Survivors bring a whole new dimension to survivorship!

Voices of Survivors has been extremely valuable to me, I was going thru some really hard times, losing friends and dealing with my own cancer. VOS gave me an outlet to tell my story.. A friend in Lynn Lane, when I lost my friend, he listened. I have learned from the powerful stories, been given hope.. cried and laughed. Most of all I have found that I am not alone. For that I am grateful. VOS Is AMAZING!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the hope it has given me, friendships I have built out of the common thread that we all share, cancer.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Lynn Lane's powerful will to make a difference. To give people a voice is so powerful!

I have been reading and watching the Voices of Survivors Foundation web site for a while now, and I would like to tell you that it is designed to give cancer patients a voice to articulate their experience and to give and find support in an on-line environment. A network of friends has been formed through Facebook that are linked by the common denominator--CANCER. Those of us who have had cancer and have family and friends dealing with this disease can share their experiences, which gives readers and listeners an opportunity to be a part of something positive. Information shared includes very helpful knowledge on the type of cancer the survivor is or has fought against--how they suspected or became diagnosed with it, how they were treated, what social and clinical support they received, and real concrete help to a reader who may think he or she had cancer or who has been diagnosed similarly. I have come to know Lynn Lane through our Facebook friendship and through his interviews, posted through a link to the Voices of Survivors Foundation web site. I am also planning to share my "voice" as a malignant melanoma survivor and have learned a lot about different types of cancer through others who have shared theirs. I can't say enough good about the current impact and potential for impacting the lives of those who feel afraid, isolated, defeated, or are terribly ill from treatments. Having a support system is always helpful for any of the difficulties life throws at us, and Voices of Survivors Foundation is a marvelous organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the information contained in "Voices'" testimonies. I have learned about M.D. Anderson and other great cancer treatment centers. I have also become more aware of how cancer patients want to be treated by their friends and family members.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I cannot offer any suggestions for change. Lynn Lane is constantly tweaking and improving the site and encourages those he meets, who have had cancer, to share their voices.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the idea that I am not alone in having had cancer. My stepson is also going from month to month with a recurrence of cancer that is manageable, but not curable. Now, I feel part of something larger than myself or cancer.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Lynn Lane. I know him through Facebook, and we have been in communication now for almost a year.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand their reach and bring in even more people. I believe perhaps some funding for cancer research or support would come out of this organization if they had $10 million.

Ways to make it better...

I can't think of anything that would have improved my experience with Voices of Survivors.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

widening their reach in the "cancer community."

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am very glad Lane found me as a fan of Randy Pausch and asked me to be his Facebook friend. He is a genuine person, who I would like to be around face-to-face sometime.

I love this non profit..I go to this site often; Lynn Lane with Voices of surviors is very positive, humourous, inspiring, witty, and caring. Voices of Survivors is a great oppertunity for cancer surviovors to tell their story/journey...not only is it a healing experience for the survivor telling their story but it's also healing for other survivors too, to hear someone elses journey... it validates us all in some way and what we have gone through.. No one has to feel like they are battling this alone, there is a whole arcive of survivors. What a great learning and inspiring experience.
