Mission: To raise funds to ensure that every abused, abandoned, and neglected child in miami-dade county has a court appointed guardian ad litem advocate and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their accompanying health, educational, and social needs.
Programs: For the period from july 1, 2013 to june 30, 2014, voices for children foundation provided financial and other support that enabled the eleventh judicial circuit guardian ad litem (gal) program to serve a total of 3,244 miami-dade county dependent children placed under the supervision of the florida department of children and families (dcf) and our kids of miami-dade/monroe, inc. These children were provided with legal advocacy and other types of support from caring, committed adults including a total of 836 gal volunteers who served 1,530 dependent children, 26 child advocacy coordinators who served 1,714 dependent children and youth, and 18 gal program attorneys who worked with the combined total of 869 gal volunteers and staff advocates. During this time period, 248 new guardian ad litem volunteers were recruited.
in addition to advocacy in the courtroom, voices for children, through its children's needs program, provided 1,069 unduplicated children with direct financial services. This includes financial assistance for clothing (809 youth), school uniforms (537 youth), food (1,248 children and family members), and other requests such as furniture, rent, educational supplies, after school programs and social enrichment activities (74 youth). Voices for children also provided direct financial assistance to children pursuing education beyond high school (6 youth) through its it takes a village project.
