Mission: The Barrymore-honored Vagabond Acting Troupe (V.A.T.) is a physical-based experimental theater company which presents works for children, families and adults throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states. The troupe operates out of offices in Morgantown, PA, and runs workshops and a production series dedicated to their home community at Rt. 82 and Fairview Road, Honey Brook, PA - serving the tri-county tip of Lancaster, Berks and Chester Counties. In addition to a main stage series, V.A.T offers an extensive touring schedule and community residency program. We are an educational theatrical ensemble whose mission is to create exciting physical productions to rouse the imagination, to inspire the next generation of theater artists, and to share access to theatrical training to our region's children and adults.
Results: Two years ago we moved into our own space. We have spent the last year putting in new seats (removed old church pews), putting a lighting grid in the air, bringing in a portable stage, while also presenting 12 different productions for our community, touring to local senior homes and schools and sharing performing arts training with over 300 K-12 students.
Programs: Production workshop, pre professional acting program, touring shows for schools, professional ensemble, playwright development project, Jackie Kay Knox Memorial Scholarship project, and more!
Vagabond acting troupe welcomed me as a young theatre artist in Philadelphia, and I couldn't be more grateful for the experience. I grew up with Vagabond; I interned, I became a core ensemble member, I acted as the company’s vocal coach, I even became a board member. My experience with Vagabond was a crucial factor that led me to pursue my MFA in Dramaturgy at Columbia University. Now as I work professionally in the NYC theatre scene, I often think of the many lessons I learned from Vagabond. The organization supports creativity, encourages collaboration, makes hard work fun, and always finds laughter in the rehearsal room. Vagabond is serious about play and is truly an open and encouraging organization. More than anything, I carry Vagabond's enthusiasm for theatre with me wherever I work. I only have great things to say about Vagabond and send all my love and support to the organization from NYC. I miss Vagabond!
I volunteer, work and am a board member for vagabond. My daughters love to perform there. I've even gotten my nerve up after all these years to act. The experiences that vagabond gives us and the self-confidence it helps build in children makes all the work worthwhile. Vagabond allows children, teens, and adults to live out dreams. The audiences get a great treat as well!
