Review from Guidestar
June 28, 2011

This active organization has been in existence for 10 years providing support for prostate cancer survivors, promoting community based, focused risk assessment for prostate cancer and advocating a healthy lifestyle and early detection.

Board members and volunteers have personal connections
to the cause of Men's Health and a passion for community service. Among the projects funded by the foundation are original research in the field of cancer detection by ultrasound and invited speakers on topics of interest to the population at risk.

As a urologist treating prostate cancer for 25 years, I remain impressed by the dedication of those who survive prostate cancer to help enlighten other men and their families. This foundation helps provide the information and resources necessary to ultimately make all men survivors and not victims.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

facilitating the early diagnosis of prostate cancer, literally saving individual lives by early detection.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase it's reach to other cities around the country.

UREF is vigorously pursing its educational mission related to Prostate cancer awareness, education and support are the focus of UREF's mission in education. The mission is accomplished through information on the UREE website, participation in health fairs, providing an annual free prostate cancer screening, and conducting a monthly support group for prostate cancer survivors and their spouses. UREF's signature event is the annual Dadfest that reaches out to the Dallas/Ft Worth community to raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of a healthy lifestyle to men's overall health. Another very important mission is research. With the internationally leadership of Urologist-Oncologist Dr. Pat Fox Fulgham, UREF has participated in research to attempt to identify markers in prostate biopsy tissue that would identify men who are at risk for recurrence prior to treatment. This small organization is very productive thanks to their volunteers and a dedicated board.

UREF is totally focused on its mission and its leadership provides continuing oversight of the organization. Resources are carefully controlled and committed and waste of resources is non-existent.

This is a wonderful foundation that has put some serious focus on a terrible disease. With the help of Pat Fulgham and Angie Clark and the members involved with the UREF there is a constant effort on making men aware of the need to be checked and checked early for prostate cancer. This cancer has inflicted 5 members of my immediate family and I would like to see a cure to this affliction. With the great people involved in the foundation (and our 5k run and golf tournament) as well as many other seminars and educational programs, the foundation is doing its best towards awareness.

Only make it larger and more prosperous to make as many folks aware of the need to be checked as often as directed.

One of the most important charities of awareness of Mens cancer risk.
1 in six men get prostate cancer.
1 in 23 die from it.

Early testing can reduce that number.
