Through her generous spirit and technical expertise, Roxanne Williams has provided the DC community with a much needed organization, Urban Ed that focuses on extending educational opportunities for at-risk individuals, so that they can position themselves for both professional and personal success. Ms. Williams’ programs are comprehensive in that they provide both the technical skills for professional success and interpersonal dynamics for personal achievement. Both of these elements contributes to the overall success of the candidate and provides them with a fundamental understanding of the importance of “paying it forward” by giving back to your community. Ms. Williams is a dynamic leader of this organization and shoulders much responsibility in her efforts at educating and revitalizing the Anacostia community. I am very proud to be associated with this organization.

Ms Williams provides an environment that strengthens social qualities and Technical knowledge. Along with preparing the students with Technical knowledge, she emphasizes the importance of team work, confidence, and having social skills. Ms. Williams has a passion for the work that she does. She enjoys being in the community, providing an educational outlet for teens and young adults, and preparing them for a successful job opportunity. I have been in her class, and watch her professionalism, and patience she exerts with each student. Ms Williams provides the confidence, self-esteem and motivation that initially was not there in some students. To keep a program in existence, funding is often required; Ms. Williams works hard, seeking support, but she still has time to teach each class, and give one-on-one time with a student if required. I’ve witness students behavior change from day 1 of entering an Urban ED program, to the last week, eager to schedule their testing; and beginning their career. Ms. Williams is a sincere and knowledgeable person and I will always be a supporter of Urban Ed and its mission.

I was introduced to UrbanEd by a friend who sits on the board. Once I found out that they are instrumental with under privileged young people in teaching them job skills by being creative using technology I knew I had to be a part of this organization. Each young person I have met that has gone through UrbanEd's program is either employed or seeking a higher education. It is rare you run across an organization with such a high success rate. I am a true believer in Urban Ed's Mission and I work diligently so that my community knows what this organization has to offer.

Urban Ed is a nonprofit that understands the importance of taking action to combat the growing rate of unskilled and unemployed youth and young adults in Washington, DC. I have volunteered and served on the board of directors for many years and remain committed to the mission and objectives of the organization. UrbanEd provides its students with a wide range of, not only IT training, but also provides career and leadership training to make their students very successful when they graduate from the Urban Ed program. But these programs need funding and the organization is very reliant on donations from individuals as well as corporations. Unfortunately, donations have been a struggle since the economy has slowed. Urban Ed needs to be able to purchase more updated hardware/software/books so they can expand their current certification training and give students a wider variety in the tech field. They also need additional funding to support hiring more instructors.

My experience here at Urban Ed has been a very good experience. I have gotten a lot out of this program in the short time that I have been here, things like more administrative skills and a lot more about computers and how to deal with people coming in the office and managing the phone lines. Also how to work with a very good organization most of all with Ms Williams and Ms Browne who are a very good group of people to work with. I was sent here to work at Urban Ed to do administrative assistant work by a place call project empowerment and I think that project empowerment couldn’t have sent me to a place. I think a lot of people should come to get all that urban Ed is trying to give to the community. The people in the community can’t get anything like this anywhere in the D.M.V. area. Urban Ed is the place for all people young and old and all that urban Ed is giving I will love to be a part of this organization, there is nothing like it out here.

Urban Ed is a wonderful opportunity for youth of the Dc area to gain valuable experience that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Urban Ed offers everything from life skills for teens to practical professional experience that can enable them to get not only a job but a career.

I have been a volunteer with Urban Ed for almost 2 years and during that time I have seen lives transformed. Being an HR Manager one hopes to see personal growth in employees but unfortunately most companies fall short in that effort; at Urban Ed students come in to the program feeling down about where they are in life and leave with pride in their hearts, viable skills, ready to be competitive in the job market. Ms. Williams, the heart & soul of Urban Ed, takes an interest in each student no matter their knowledge level and challenge them to do what it takes to get certified; this to me is an investment in our “human resource” which in turn makes for a better community and a better future for our children. On a more personal level, I was laid-off last year and the first thought that came to mind was “now I have more time to give to Urban Ed”. Not only do I have the opportunity to utilize my professional skills to assist this organization in its day to day functions but I get to see personal & professional growth in our students and staff alike.

I have been a network engineer/manager at Cisco for the past 12 years and I got involved with UrbanEd a little over 3 years ago. I have been a guest instructor many times and I am a very enthusiastic supporter. UrbanEd is a real world manifestation of "building the community". I have personally witnessed sutdents who may have had a tough break in life changed by their experience at UrbanEd. It cannot be overstated how impactful it is for UrbanEd to provide meaningful career and education opportunities to youth and young adults in the Washington, DC community. UrbanEd literally transforms lives by providing vision, hope and confidence in a very real way through the technical knowledge and certification that is imparted through their programs. Not only does UrbanEd provide the core education and "hands-on" training, but they also provide a vehicle to actually apply this on real customer engagements. This is a life-long lesson that can be applied over and over as these young adults pursue job/career opportunities. UrbanEd executes this model ideally and will continue to have my support going forward.

I am honor to be a student of Urban Ed. Urban Ed has helped me gain confidence in obtaining my A+ Certification. With all the knowledge and resources giving, I am positive that I will obtain my certification this year. After obtaining my certification, I plan to enroll into the 2nd course which is the MCP/MCDST Certification. This will help me with the career path I want to follow. A lot of entry level IT positions requires these certifications. One most important part about Urban Ed is that it's inexpensive. I never knew an organization that in every aspect is a plus. For example: the tuition/cost, resources and most importantly a teacher that teaches. The teacher is very understandable and down to earth. Urban Ed cares about YOU. I couldn't have asked for a better organization or teacher. If it wasn’t for Urban Ed, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to follow my career goal/dream. Thank You Urban Ed.

Urban Ed Inc has been a great experience for me. This non-profit organization has given me great job training hands on experience and the tools needed to pass the A+ certification test and many other information technology test in order to start a career in the IT field. This 10 week program trains individuals the in's and out's of working in many different areas of the IT filled. Overall this is a well rounded program that I would recommend to anybody that wants training in Microsoft office, word, excel, power point, IT technician, and many other area of computer technology.
