I was an Intern for University Settlement from December 2010 to March 2011. It is a great place to intern and volunteer and and does wonders for the community
I have been volunteering at University Settlement for about 5 months now and I can honestly say that this has been one of the best experiences. There are many great people here who enteract and actually care about you. Even though I do not work here I still feel like I am apart of the Settlement family. When I look at the children in the after school program they always seem to be smiling and enjoying themselves. The food pantry is operated diligently and the kitchen has some of the best staff you could ask for. There is also a senior program that truly cares for their seniors. They pick them up and take them back home while ensuring that they had a great time at University. I also have the opportunity to meet different people from the neighborhood. This is truly a great experience.
the university settlement gives me the help and support from people who show they care about u. i get the training i need to persue a front office career, the settlement has great programs for everyone from young to old. the university settlement showed me how good it feels to help people in need befor i started working at the settlement i didnt think about people who needed help in life. i am thankful for the university settlement they made me a better person. they showed me that helping people in need is the best thing u can do with your free time. with out them i would have never learned that part of life.
I only had a chance to volunteer for a short time recently because I went back to school. I would like to say that when I thought of being a volunteer again, University Settlement was the first place I thought of. I had the opportunity to serve meals at University Settlement via an United Way project several years ago and it left a lasting impression on me. I felt they were doing a good work in the neighborhood. This year, I enjoyed seeing how they were helping parents and caregivers through discussion groups which really helps when you're taking care of children.
I would definitely serve at University Settlement again.
When I was a young girl growing up in the Slavic Village area of Cleveland, University Settlement had contacted my parents. They provided a week-long camping experience for myself and one of my sisters. Coming from a family of 11 children I felt I had a freedom I have not experienced before. I recently was able to give back to University Settlement. While attending Tri-C I had the wonderful opportunity to do part of my internship at Uiversity Settlement. I chose to work with the Senior Wellness Program under Mr. Ron Bridges. This program is for seniors who seek out companionship with other seniors, share experiences on a daily basis and just have fun enjoying each other's company. The seniors are served a hot breakfast and lunch as well as an afternoon snack. There are stimulating activities for the seniors, such as Inspirational Hour, Logic Hour, Line Dancing and A.M. Stretch. There are activites that stretch the seniors' mind such as Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. The Senior Day Program also offers activities that are just fun, for example Bingo, chair Volleyball, billiards, card games and dominos.
Mr. Bridges touches the lives of these seniors every day. He makes sure he touches base with every senior who comes in that day, just to say hello and make sure they are doing okay. He makes sure they have the services they need and have food in their homes. His responsibilities are as the Program Manager, but his heart and spirit for the seniors in Slavic Village is what truly guides this program.
