Through the Roof Ministries is an organization with a passion for meeting the needs of those with disabilities. They are a caring group of people with big hearts. I have been involved with their NE Ohio community outings and their baby bundle outreach. They collect cloth diaper, pins, baby soap, small baby toys and wrap them all up in a receiving blanket and take to new parents with a tiny infant diagnosed with a disability. Often no one goes and congratulates these parents because they do not know what to say. But the Lord has placed this new born life in our care. Through the Roof is reaching out even in difficult circumstances to bring hope to people in Ohio, Latin America and Haiti.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In meeting the needs of parents with a newborn with a disability and meeting the needs of adults with disabilities.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help them gain more items for their baby bundles and needed rehab equipment.

Through the Roof came to my church and shared about their local and international disability ministry. Shanda is a great speaker and spoke one Sunday on Mark 2 and how the four friends lowered the disabled man to the feet of Jesus. She has a great sense of humor and insight into the Bible. We loved her sweet spirit. I would also recommend her devotional When a Soul Breathes.

I have helped by picking up wheelchairs that people donate. Through the Roof accepts all kinds of equipment and medical supplies. They fix them and have a loaner program and also send these to other countries. The people that donate often need encouragement and I can help in this way. I am thankful I have a truck and can volunteer my time now that I am retired.

I have been involved with Through the Roof by donating equipment and first aide supplies for them to send to Haiti. What an incredible ministry this is. They are meeting needs in the local NE Ohio area and in other countries. I really was touched by the story of little Jodeline in Haiti that lost her home and family. Margaret traveled to Haiti one month after the earthquake. She was able to provide therapy to people in 2 hospitals and take toys to the children so there would be a bright spot among all the darkness.

Through the Roof visited me when I was in the rehab center and brought me an encouraging book and more important gave me hope to continue to try to get back home after an accident that left me unable to walk. They were able to loan me a wheelchair so I could go to church once I was home and able to attend.

I have served with Through the Roof Ministries for a few years collecting mobility equipment. They are an all volunteer run organization and work tirelessly to assist those with disabilities in the local community and internationally. It is awesome to see how this ministry touches the lives of those who give as well as those who receive wheelchairs.

Through the Roof helped my mom when she was in a rehab center to get the equipment she needed to return home. Our insurance did not cover the cost of both a walker and a wheelchair. They were able to give us a walker for use in the home and we were able to get the wheelchair through insurance. They also were able to help us with other equipment mom needed to return home safely.

When I first heard about this organization I wondered why are they called Through the Roof Ministries? I learned it is from The Bible story of four men in Mark 2 who took a disabled man to Jesus. They couldn't get in the church because of the crowd, so they lowered him though the roof. Now this group is not lowering people through a roof. They are a caring group of people seeking to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people with disabilities. They do this in many ways including giving equipment, leading support groups, having dinners. Simply said, they care about the whole person and do not focus on the disability.

Through the Roof has a community outing called Fellowship of Friends. Before I found out about this I hardly went out much. I was so lonely. Now I look forward to going and meeting new people. People with and without disabilities go and we just have fun! Getting out and doing things with other people can be a challenge sometimes when you have a disability. I really like going bowling and to the museums.

I have participated on wheelchair seating mission trips to Honduras for the past 3 years. TTRM is excellent in organizing, teaching, training its volunteers from all over the US and in Honduras. The emphasis on involving the local Hondurans in training and continuing the mission throughout the year is empowering to the people we go to serve. We may be there for one week but the program endures throughout the year. God is glorified through this ministry.
