Deriving inspiration & vitality through activity (diva) program provides exercise, nutrition and wellness classes to breast cancer patients and survivors in san antonio and bexar county. Research shows that women who exercise and follow a low-fat diet and adhere to their recommended hormonal or chemotherapy, have a reduction in breast cancer mortality by up to 50%. As of december 31, 2014, the diva program offered 30 classes a week at 5 different locations across san antonio. More than 900 women are on the diva roster.

many cancer patients in our community are without a reliable means of transportation thus making traveling to and from treatment appointments impossible. Additionally, the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis can be devastating. Thrivewell cancer foundation provides patients with financial assistance to help offset the costs associated with their medical care, as well as treatment related transportation. Our goal is to give patients the best possible chance of beating the disease while eliminating the added stressors that go hand-in-hand with cancer. During 2014, thrivewell cancer foundation's patient assistance program provided transportation services to 131 cancer patients and financial assistance to 159 cancer patients helping offset the costs associated with their treatment.

thrivewell cancer foundation funded two cutting-edge research grants in 2013. The title of the funded projects are as follows: microrna's: safe and potent therapeutic molecules for treating drug resistant breast cancers; exploring the role of crl4cdt2 in aggressive prostate cancer. During 2012, the foundation launched a special research project entitled the san antonio 1000 cancer genome project (sa1kcgp). The sa1kcgp provides whole genome sequencing on tumors from patients with the ten most common cancers in san antonio and makes the data obtained from the tumors available to doctors and researchers worldwide. The sa1kcgp established their own 501(c)(3) status in 2014 but the foundation will still act as the financial payer of the genome sequencing and extraction fees with the monies raised by the foundation specifically for the sa1kcgp.

I am a breast cancer survivor. A breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. It was a challenging & hard-fought battle to endure the pain and suffering of multiple surgeries; the devasting effects and side-effects of chemotherapy; and to overcome my fear. My participation in the TriveWell Cancer Foundation (The DIVA Program) was strongly recommended to me by my oncologist. The DIVA Program is a FREE nutrition & exercise program for women with breast cancer. Breast cancer patients who follow diet & exercise guidlines can reduce their risk of recurrence by 30-40 percent! The DIVA Program (Deriving Inspiration & Vitality through Activity) is a fitness program offering aerobics, yoga, Thai Chi & zumba classes. It provides nutritional counseling. Artful Healing classes are available twice monthly. THE DIVA PROGRAM IS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE. The DIVA Program gave me an opportunity to "Get My Life Back". ThriveWell Cancer Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for cancer by funding cancer research, providing patient support, and offering programs, such as The DIVA Program, to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. The DIVA "sisterhood" has given me an opportunity to gain control over my life, good health, & my survival rate. The DIVA Program positively impacts the San Antonio Community's breast cancer patients & survivors.

I recently had my cancer check up. My oncologist is proud of me & my amazing results. I am cancer-free, in excellent health, and through my active participation in The DIVA Program, I have a reduced breast cancer mortality rate of 50%.

ThriveWell is a wonderful organization with a focused mission and staff. Last year's fundraising event was a great success and ThriveWell continues to be a worthy beneficiary! The research funded by last year's event has made great progress in learning more about Burkitt's Lymphoma, and I look forward to working with ThriveWell again soon!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

2009 Aim For A Cure Clay Tournament raised over $25,000 to support ThriveWell's cancer research program through START. So far, developed three human tumor models of Burkitt's lymphoma to evaluate potential therapies, etc...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I look forward to the growth and expansion of community outreach of ThriveWell and know with the continued support of friends, donors, and the community, ThriveWell will continue to serve those that have been affected by cancer.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people that care so much about the mission of the organization and the community.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

nothing short of amazing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help every person that has been affected by cancer.

Ways to make it better...

It has been wonderful

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The economy is tough for all nonprofits right now.

One thing I'd also say is that...
