I was involved here for about two years as both a member and donor. I am a Roosevelt enthusiast, and hoped the organization founded in his name would be as vivid and meaningful and useful as the man himself. I was wrong. The focus seems to be more social than anything else, with enthusiasts gathering every year for an annual meeting that revolves around a cocktail party and formal dinner. There are no meaningful alliances, so far as I saw, with any conservation organizations or other organizations doing useful work in fields important to TR. There is no carrying on of his tradition. I would characterize the organization as a fan club for a dead president, and little more. Does not compare favorably, for example, with the highly active and energetic Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt Institute. Were Theodore Roosevelt himself alive today, I doubt if he would devote any time whatsoever to an organization such as the Theodore Roosevelt Association is today.
