As a volunteer, I feel energized by the opportunity to make the community aware of the services of The Victory Center. When I staff our display at community health fairs and speak to attendees, it is so rewarding to have even just one person say that the individual therapies or the support groups are just what are needed for themselves or for a family member or friend. As a cancer survivor and recipient of the services of The Victory Center, I know firsthand how invaluable the support received there is.

As a volunteer and a former participant, I know firsthand that The Victory Center is an oasis of calm in a cancer patient's often overwhelming journey. This is not only because of the many services provided free of charge to cancer patients and their families, but also because of the caring staff and professionals that serve The Victory Center. Another key component of The Victory Center is the opportunity for cancer patients to connect with, and draw support from one another.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Both my husband and I have participated in support groups at The Victory Center, following my diagnosis of breast cancer. We both found the support groups immensely helpful. I enjoyed the individual therapies; massage, healing touch, reflexology, as well as the classes in yoga and gentle exercise.

I would like to see The Victory Center given more recognition in the community. The services they provide to cancer patients and their families are invaluable.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Made me more comfortable with public speaking.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

I feel like I have helped others in our community by making them aware of The Victory Center, and have, hopefully, made their journey through their cancer experience a bit easier.

I didn't know which role to check as I'm a previous client, a volunteer, & a Board Member. When I was first diagnosed with cancer I was so upset& stressed out,& the outlook seem pretty grim. I knew about The Victory Center, but not really what they did. The services they offered were so soothing & calming (and they were free). The staff & therapists were so loving & caring I always felt better after a visit there. I truly believe that one of the reasons I'm still here today is because of the support of The Victory Center. After being a recipient of the care I felt I needed to be a volunteer there, and then went on the Board.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer, the end of 2010. I was encouraged by my quimmo doctor to visited The Victory Center.
I was very welcomed. The staff have made me feel like I belong and I did not feel so isolated. I try thing I never done before like Belly dance and Reiki. I am very thank
full to have a place like The Victory Center to go during this difficult moment of my life.

The Victory Center is a very special place. Along with all of their services the Center provides a safe place to "be who you are" during a health crisis. The staff is so nurturing and warm. You immediately feel accepted and "needed." This may sound strange but the staff at the Victory Center want to help you and want/need to share all of their compassion and knowledge. We are very, very lucky to have the Center here in Toledo, Ohio.

I have personally experienced the results of this organization during treatment for breast cancer. I have also witnessed how others are so positively affected through their services.

The only thing I would change is their funding -- I would have to have a lot more money than I do now though.

In 2009, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. We were all shocked and didn't know what to do. We were given names of various organizations and decided to check out the Victory Center. We were welcomed with open arms when we came in - literally, Lynn and Penny were there to hug us, which was comforting. I was asked for advice and input and the support group and suggestions from the TVC staff and other patients were quite helpful. My mom is quiet and doesn't typically go places on her own so it took a while but we would go together to appointments but now she goes there on her own almost on a daily basis. The treatments (massage, facial, reflexology, reiki, healthy steps class, yoga etc) help relax her and keep her mind off the cancer, surgery and now the pain that still remains. My mom has also created new friendships with people in her knitting class - which is something she never did until she came to the Victory Center. So, I'd say the Victory Center has opened doors for my mom to explore and try things she's never done (belly dancing, knitting, etc.) The Victory Center has become my mom's "home" away from home. I don't know what my family would have done if we didn't find this gem right here in Toledo, Ohio. Thank you!!

She is more relaxed and realizes the importance of good health and well being and wants to go to the Victory Center everyday. It's on her daily schedule!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would want a bigger location for the Victory Center to better serve the community, add more programs and serve more people in need.

When my Father was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer in July of 2009 at the young of age 60, I had no where to turn. I found The Victory Center through The American Society when searching for support. They not only helped me deal with such a tragic situation they also gave my Father a type of treatment I never knew he would accept. He enjoyed all the healing touch and massage therapies he could in the short time he lived from diagnosis to passing. I can't imagine if we had not found TVC how much harder the experience would have been. The center is a wonderful safe haven for not only Cancer Patients but their families as well.

The Victory Center has been my 'port in a storm' by providing a safe haven in my time of need after cancel diagnosis and treatment. Their sweet and compassionate staff have made me feel like I belong somewhere and I'm not isolated in the world. I have joined their Breast Cancer Support Group and it has been a healing experience for me mentally, which in turn, is good physically. I have taken advantage of their free services and found each one to help me in a different way - massage, facial, reflexology, healing touch and reiki. What an excellent organization and staff!

The Victory Center is a safe haven for those on a cancer journey. It is a "jewel" of Toledo, Ohio. As a former participant and board member, I know the value first hand of the services provided by caring individuals. TVC is a healing place for the mind, body, and soul. I am forever grateful for the care and support I received during my journey in 2001-2002.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

providing a caring and healing environmen, where the mission is to provide supportive services free-of-charge to cancer patients and their families. I value my time spent at TVC, the friendships and bonds I made, and the loving support from those who knew exactly what I needed when I may not have known myself.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

develop a speakers bureau to raise the awareness of the existance of The Victory Center and the value of their sevices to those fighting cancer.
