Pazapa/the Siloe Project is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the Pazapa Center for handicapped children in the city of Jacmel, Haiti. The Pazapa Center''s mission is to provide support to disbled children and their families and to help these children integrate into the community at large.
Our programs reflect a holistic approach to child development. Since the inauguration of the Pazapa Center, Siloe has supported a broad range of services and projects there. The orthopedic program provides treatment and rehabilitation for the physically disabled; visually impaired children attend boarding school in Port-au-Prince; the Pazapa School provides special education, education of the hearing impaired, stimulation activities, and recreation to special-needs children and education to family members to encourage ongoing, effective home care. All children enrolled at the Pazapa Center receive health care, nutritional supplements, hot meals, and family education on hygiene, first aid, and nutrition. Adult programs include family planning, sewing, and cooking courses. Pazapa has also facilitated independent, small commercial ventures to provide job opportunities for Pazapa client families, such as a fruit-drying project. Pazapa has initiated an outreach program partnering with rural communities to help them assess and support their special-needs children.
