My partner is a long-term survivor of Osteosarcoma (bone cancer for anyone not already in the know.) After a particularly hellish surgery to replace her artificial knee and its companion Tibial component, she received support from the SAMFund in order to pay for a gym membership (therapy pool, whoo-hoo!) and a portion of her rather terrifying insurance premiums. Thanks to SAMF, we were able to take a pair of rare but very deep breaths. KUDOS TO THE MAX.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the health and happiness of a much-beloved partner.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make damned sure that it stayed around in perpetuity.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that they're not about to stop finding ways to help a too-often unrepresented group of survivors get back up to the speed of life.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

pleasant and inspired I'm sure - if I'd actually met any. ;)

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help a whole LOT of young folks take care of themselves.

Ways to make it better...

the SAMFund actually had had that 10 million bucks.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the ever-increasing number of young adult cancer survivors that it endeavors to assist.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the SAMFund totally rules. 'Nuff said.

SAMFund is awesome and unique in the population it serves and how it does so. Started by someone who truly understands what difficulties young adult survivors encounter, I was so excited to find out that an organization like this existed. It is hard enough to be a young adult trying to make it in the world, and then throw in managing severe health complications from cancer treatment and all the bills that come with it, and I was feeling extremely overwhelmed and helpless. SAMFund helped alleviate some of that financial burden, improving my quality of life and allowing me to focus on important long-term goals in the process.

I get behind the SAMFund 100%!!!

The SAMFund is such an amazing organization for young adult cancer survivors. Their focus on helping those who've battled cancer move forward in their lives is meeting a huge need. Cancer survivors need support after cancer too! I am a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma and received a grant with rent assistance in 2007. At that time, I was a full time student who was just trying to make ends meet as many people do. With my added expenses due to cancer such as doctor's visits, prescriptions and lab work there wasn't anything extra to go around. The ability to have my rent paid for a few months helped take away the stress! The SAMFund helps so many in so many ways. The organization and those who run it are AMAZING!!

The SAMFund is an amazing organization that gives grants to young cancer survivors in order to help them begin their lives again. The grant I received from The SAMFund helped to pay my rent while I paid off medical bills and began my Master's education. I love The SAMFund!

The SAMFund is an amazing organization, that focuses on young adults who have completed treatment and are trying to get on with their lives. One of the things we find out as survivors is that it isn't easy to go back into the "real world", especially since most of us are continuing to deal with the effects of our treatments. The SAMFund helps us to deal with our finances and be able to pursue our dreams. I wouldn't have been able to go back to school and work towards completing my degree without the help of the SAMFund and the people who donate. The staff is amazing and they truly care about each and every survivor they come into contact with.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my own life! The SAMFund Grant allowed me to go back to school and continue on with my life. I was able to get my prescriptions without worrying about how to pay for them. I have been able to keep up my gym membership which helps me heal and stay healthy.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Work hard to get the message out about young adult survivors. We are a unique group that wants to make a difference and we need support to be able to do that. We have a drive and a passion to better our lives and the lives of other survivors.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the wonderful people. The staff truly cares about each person they help. They will take the time to talk to you about anything and they are always there to help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Caring, attentive, respectful, and hardworking. They put in long hours and will do all they can to help young adult survivors.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help a whole lot of young adult cancer survivors. Ease the financial burdens that we face, help us continue, finish or even start new educations. Most important, they could help more survivors lead a better quality of life.

Ways to make it better...

I don't think it could have been better! You truly feel respected and welcome by everyone you talk with.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Donations. In these rough economic times people aren't as able to donate and this affects how many people The SAMFund can help. It is also a time when more survivors need help and the money needs to be there in order to do so.

The SAMFund is one of the most amazing organizations!! Through their generosity, many cancer survivors, myself included, have been able move past difficult times as a result of the financial support they have provided. Many people don't realize that the effects of cancer linger well beyond the completion of treatment and trying to explain that to others who don't know can be difficult. Sam and Michelle were so kind and understanding of my situation and never once showed anything but compassion. I can't imagine what would have happened to me had SAMFund not been there to help.

Being a cancer survivor at the age of 25 is not exactly an expected event on the path to adulthood and independence. The SAMFund is there to not only help with all the unexpected financial burdens that come with cancer, but they are also there to provide understanding and support in a sometimes very lonely journey. I can't fully express the importance of the SAMFund's work in such a short narrative, but I can say that they are an amazing organization and I can never thank them enough for everything they have done and continue to do for myself and other young adult survivors!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

all the stories of the people they have helped-myself included. Young adult cancer survivors are a forgotten group. But the SAMFund has taken us on as their mission to raise awareness and offer support.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not do nearly as good a job as Samantha and her crew! I am happy to do my part by spreading the word and my praises of the SAMFund!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

feeling part of a community and knowing the SAMFund wants to help me move on and continue to be successful.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

nothing short of amazing. They are completely dedicated to this organization and the people it serves.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help all the young adult cancer survivors in the country, and I know that is the ultimate dream of the organization. It stinks that young cancer survivors had to go through the things they did, but thank God for the SAMFund!

Ways to make it better...

I had never had cancer in the first place. But because I can't change that fact, I am so happy I found the SAMFUnd and can't say enough about all they do.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the current state of the economy and lack of awareness for the cause. That is why I am happy to tell my story in support!!

One thing I'd also say is that...

I love the SAMFund and will always be forever thankful!

Samantha and the fund greatly helped me after my diagnosis. After a couple months of chemo and surgeries, it leaves mind, body, and bank well depleted. She and her team provide a great service to young survivors by allowing us to take our minds off some portions of the whole process and concentrate on mind and body. Thanks again Sam for everything!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The people are very friendly and easy to talk to. She also showed me to other cancer organizations that I could become a part of to try and help other survivors or the newly diagnosed.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

through, intelligent, and caring individuals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

really do alot to help alot of people. I am sure Sam would make sure as many people were helped for as long as possible.

Ways to make it better...

I was never even in this situation. Since I am, it was as good of an experience as it could have been.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

A failing economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thank you. I can't even explain how much it helped. Thank you. (Sorry that is not a complaint, but...)

The SAMFund helped me out in ways unimaginable. I received a grant from them in 2008 to assist with my medical bills, etc, from cancer treatment. Their support has changed my life, and helped me move on from my treatment. I am continuously spreading the word about the SAMFund because I hope to help someone out, like SAMFund helped me out. I am deeply touched for what the organization has done for me.

Try and help as many people as possible, but they're already doing that :)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Samantha was the woman who primarily dealt with my grant, and she was amazing in helping me out with everything.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

They were all equally amazing. I did not personally meet them, but I hope to someday. They changed my life.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help out a BILLION more people. It would CHANGE the lives of young adult cancer survivors.

Ways to make it better...

The SAMFund was absolutely amazing. I still keep in touch with them, and hope to in the future also. They are wonderful.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

I would say raising awarenes and getting donations, because honestly, you can't get enough, so it will always be ongoing.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are the best, and good luck tot hem :)

The SAMFund not only offers incredible living grants to young adult cancer survivors (of which no other cancer survivor's org. offers), the personnel (Sam and Michelle) are 2 amazing women who make traversing the precarious terrain of the medical establishment, contacting insurance companies, and making timely payments on behalf of us, their recipients, look easy! Had it not been for the last 2 years that I was chosen as a grant recipient, I don't know how I would have survived as a student with a limited income and high expenses associated with having been ill. However, with those grants, I have now graduated, Summa Cum Laude, having been able to concentrate on reestablishing myself after the scary and unexpected cancer diagnosis at 26. Furthermore, I have had the privilege of working with the SAMFund as a recipient who can reach out to donors, express my gratitude toward and importance of their generosity, while collaborating on future fundraising efforts. SAMFund is a unique and necessary org that advocates and understands the challenges and opportunities associated with a cancer diagnosis. I am eternally grateful to them!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my capacity to subsist in a society where health care is a for-profit business and the amount of debt I have accrued over 3 years has been alleviated by the generous grants from the SAMFund!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do nothing different.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the gift they provide of enabling us to focus on the future instead of being stuck in the past, drowning in debt.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

AMAZING!...perpetually available, forever helpful, smart, inspiring, driven, compassionate, so much love!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help hundreds of more young survivors "move forward" following a cancer experience!

Ways to make it better...

SAMFund were located in California and I could volunteer in their offices as a small token of my gratitude!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the economic downturn and the threat it poses to consistent donor pool.

One thing I'd also say is that...

SAMFund makes me want to become a professional fundraiser...just for them!
