SAMFund has given hope to many young adults who still feel the impact of cancer. I was blessed to receive support in order to help me find permanent housing. My story with cancer led me to be homeless for a short time and SAMFund allowed me to find security again. Along with the support they provide, I have also been very impressed with their personal contact. After experiencing system after system, it was refreshing to be treated as a person and a friend.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the personal contact with staff. I appreciate knowing that I am cared for.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, helpful, and excited about the work that they do.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bless many other young adults with the ability to move forward after difficult trials. SAMFund assists young adults to pay for education, training, housing, and debt from hospital bills.

Ways to make it better...

the quotes were proof read before posting.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

finding donors. I really can not speak to this but that would be my guess.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I a grateful to be a part of the SAMFund organization.

The SAMFund is an amazing organization with which I've had the pleasure of working since close to its inception. Its founder, Sam Eisenstein is a friend from college who I met after her first major bout with cancer. She is an amazing woman who not only found the strength to beat cancer, but to use her experience to help others. The SAMFund recognized an under-represented base of need in this country, and has done so much already to help. I've met a number of recipients as well as donors who believe so fully in this cause that many have taken helping to an almost full-time level. In an economic climate like today's, there is no better time for a group like the SAMFund to be in existence helping to keep young survivors going and on top of their bills and in charge of their lives.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the eyes of recipients. The relief they feel and the burden that is lifted is apparent in everything they do.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that the goal is clear, the constituency is there, and the results are tangible.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

committed, honest, and all knew someone who had been through the disease, and had a first person understanding of why what they were doing was necessary.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

be that much more helpful to so many more struggling young survivors of cancer.

As a survivor of cancer the SAMfund has helped to provide me with assistance in persueing my dreams. Besides the monetary assistance, I have seen and met other survivors who have over come the difficulties they have been faced with in their early lives and it has helped give me confidence to face my own difficulties. It has made an impact on my life that I am forever gratefull for.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The personal connection that the heads of the organization have with thier recipients. They truly care about the individual and have made efforts to stay connected to me on a personal level.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

incredibly sincere. The people involved with the SAMfund truly have a deep conviction to their cause.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the lives of so many people who have had an unfair start to their adult lives. In these times it is difficult enough for young adults to establish themselves. Never mind the incredable set back cancer can be.

Ways to make it better...

the organization could have more resources to assist and aid.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

fund raising. They are still a relatively small organization who is growing fast and need to find ways to meet the demands of an evergrowing population.

One thing I'd also say is that...

organizations like this are a shining beacon of hope for the human spirit. The fact that people would truly dedicate their lives to others in this manor is amazing.

As a young adult cancer survivor getting back on my feet medically, socially and financially was a long road. After undergoing treatment for leukemia, and two bone marrow transplants my meager savings were depleted, and social security barely covered the mortgage never mind a Boston heating bill during a harsh winter. The Samfund provided me with the financial relief I needed, paying for some of my utilities. What the Samfund was able to provide made a world of difference and helped me sleep better at night. I am forever grateful to the Samfund and as payback I help the Samfund in any way I can to ensure young adult cancer survivors like myself, are recognized and helped where other cancer organizations fail to fulfill our needs.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Personally as a recipient, and as a volunteer and how the Samfund has helped local young adult survivors.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Beg for more money, which Sam does! If Samfund had more money I would also work with legislators to recognize youg adult survivors and change medicaid to fit the needs of young adults who can't work becuase of their illness but need med. coverage

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Meeting other survivors, and helping give back to the group that helped me when I needed it most.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Phenomenal

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help all the qualifing recipients, work to change the laws to provide more equitable medical coverage for young adults, and social security beenfits that reflect the standard of living by state.

Ways to make it better...

Obviously, the only criticism I'd have is if there were more funds we could help more young adult survivors who's unquie circumstances are ignored by many of the larger non-profit concer groups.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Getting more funding to help more young adult survivors! 100% of the money raised goes to recipients.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Sam Eisentein Watson, is a tremendously hard worker, she lives and breaths this organization, and all she does is for the survivors, she is open to new ideas, reaches out to people for help and wants to improve the organization constantly.

The SAMFund holds a unique place amongst not just cancer-related organizations, but non-profits in general. Founder and cancer survivor Sam Eisenstein Watson focuses on a niche — young adult survivors of cancer — and recognizes that the tremendous financial costs of battling the disease can be more difficult to battle than the emotional ones. People are strong, and with love and support can show amazing resilience. But bank accounts are fluid, and can too quickly be drained with hospital bills, coupled with missed work or school. By providing financial assistance to young adult survivors of cancer, and working tirelessly for those it helps, The SAMFund empowers the individuals it helps to regain control of their lives after frightening interruptions from the disease.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the successes of the young adults it has empowered to reclaim control of their lives.

After writing a grant application to the SAMFund, I was awarded funding for a year's worth of free yoga, all the physical therapy I needed, and car insurance coverage. After being on disability and using up all my savings, I had NO money to physically or mentally take care of myself post-cancer. The SAMFund made that possible. Now I go to Restorative Yoga classes as often as I want without worrying about the cost. It has worked wonders for me - physically and mentally. I feel I am finally gaining the control of my body that I felt I lost through my cancer experience. And I am taking care of myself in ways I never would've been able to afford.
