Being a cancer survivor at the age of 25 is not exactly an expected event on the path to adulthood and independence. The SAMFund is there to not only help with all the unexpected financial burdens that come with cancer, but they are also there to provide understanding and support in a sometimes very lonely journey. I can't fully express the importance of the SAMFund's work in such a short narrative, but I can say that they are an amazing organization and I can never thank them enough for everything they have done and continue to do for myself and other young adult survivors!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

all the stories of the people they have helped-myself included. Young adult cancer survivors are a forgotten group. But the SAMFund has taken us on as their mission to raise awareness and offer support.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not do nearly as good a job as Samantha and her crew! I am happy to do my part by spreading the word and my praises of the SAMFund!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

feeling part of a community and knowing the SAMFund wants to help me move on and continue to be successful.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

nothing short of amazing. They are completely dedicated to this organization and the people it serves.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help all the young adult cancer survivors in the country, and I know that is the ultimate dream of the organization. It stinks that young cancer survivors had to go through the things they did, but thank God for the SAMFund!

Ways to make it better...

I had never had cancer in the first place. But because I can't change that fact, I am so happy I found the SAMFUnd and can't say enough about all they do.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the current state of the economy and lack of awareness for the cause. That is why I am happy to tell my story in support!!

One thing I'd also say is that...

I love the SAMFund and will always be forever thankful!

Samantha and the fund greatly helped me after my diagnosis. After a couple months of chemo and surgeries, it leaves mind, body, and bank well depleted. She and her team provide a great service to young survivors by allowing us to take our minds off some portions of the whole process and concentrate on mind and body. Thanks again Sam for everything!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my own life. They helped to ease some of my financial burden after treatment.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

resign and ask Sam to take back over for me.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The people are very friendly and easy to talk to. She also showed me to other cancer organizations that I could become a part of to try and help other survivors or the newly diagnosed.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

through, intelligent, and caring individuals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

really do alot to help alot of people. I am sure Sam would make sure as many people were helped for as long as possible.

Ways to make it better...

I was never even in this situation. Since I am, it was as good of an experience as it could have been.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

A failing economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thank you. I can't even explain how much it helped. Thank you. (Sorry that is not a complaint, but...)

The SAMFund helped me out in ways unimaginable. I received a grant from them in 2008 to assist with my medical bills, etc, from cancer treatment. Their support has changed my life, and helped me move on from my treatment. I am continuously spreading the word about the SAMFund because I hope to help someone out, like SAMFund helped me out. I am deeply touched for what the organization has done for me.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Their website is amazing, and touchs me everytime I read about the other survivors. It always brings a tear to my eye. They are amazing, and I don't know where I would be right now without them.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Try and help as many people as possible, but they're already doing that :)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Samantha was the woman who primarily dealt with my grant, and she was amazing in helping me out with everything.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

They were all equally amazing. I did not personally meet them, but I hope to someday. They changed my life.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help out a BILLION more people. It would CHANGE the lives of young adult cancer survivors.

Ways to make it better...

The SAMFund was absolutely amazing. I still keep in touch with them, and hope to in the future also. They are wonderful.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

I would say raising awarenes and getting donations, because honestly, you can't get enough, so it will always be ongoing.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are the best, and good luck tot hem :)

This organization is so incredibly dedicated to the growing population of young adult cancer survivors. A grant in 2008 relieved a great deal of financial pressure for my boyfriend, who is putting himself through school while attempting to pay off numerous medical bills from his cancer treatment. The SAMFund is superbly run and does not stop at financial support. Events that bring together survivors celebrate life, create an open forum for discussion of issues and experiences, and, perhaps most importantly, create a powerful community to promote their motto: surviving and moving forward.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the life of someone dear to me and have heard praises from other recipients.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

only hope to do as well as Sam and Michelle do.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the absolute passion and sincerity of those involved.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extraordinarily kind.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

give so many more people a fair start at an adult life.

Ways to make it better...

we lived in a dream world in which endless funds are available to relieve all debt for all cancer survivors...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

meeting the growing needs of a population that, unfortunately, will not diminish.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the SAMFund takes measures to improve quality of life in a way that has renewed in me the belief that we can go beyond enduring life and its challenges to truly thrive.

The SAMFund not only offers incredible living grants to young adult cancer survivors (of which no other cancer survivor's org. offers), the personnel (Sam and Michelle) are 2 amazing women who make traversing the precarious terrain of the medical establishment, contacting insurance companies, and making timely payments on behalf of us, their recipients, look easy! Had it not been for the last 2 years that I was chosen as a grant recipient, I don't know how I would have survived as a student with a limited income and high expenses associated with having been ill. However, with those grants, I have now graduated, Summa Cum Laude, having been able to concentrate on reestablishing myself after the scary and unexpected cancer diagnosis at 26. Furthermore, I have had the privilege of working with the SAMFund as a recipient who can reach out to donors, express my gratitude toward and importance of their generosity, while collaborating on future fundraising efforts. SAMFund is a unique and necessary org that advocates and understands the challenges and opportunities associated with a cancer diagnosis. I am eternally grateful to them!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my capacity to subsist in a society where health care is a for-profit business and the amount of debt I have accrued over 3 years has been alleviated by the generous grants from the SAMFund!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do nothing different.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the gift they provide of enabling us to focus on the future instead of being stuck in the past, drowning in debt.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

AMAZING!...perpetually available, forever helpful, smart, inspiring, driven, compassionate, so much love!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help hundreds of more young survivors "move forward" following a cancer experience!

Ways to make it better...

SAMFund were located in California and I could volunteer in their offices as a small token of my gratitude!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the economic downturn and the threat it poses to consistent donor pool.

One thing I'd also say is that...

SAMFund makes me want to become a professional fundraiser...just for them!

Knowing that the SAMFund donates its funds DIRECTLY to recipients so they can pay for their rent, school loans, tuition, even gym memberships (many cancer survivors need to keep in good physical condition just for insurance) gives me total peace of mind when donating to them. Kids in their 20s with no money is nothing new ... but those who are just coming out of cancer treatment, they're the ones who face the REAL obstacles. I'm happy to help them reduce their stress over paying some bills.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Stories and photos of grant recipients. In a few short years this fund has donated hundreds of thousands to young cancer survivors: the future of our world.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing those aforementioned stories and photos!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Passionately involved.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Give it all away to worthy cancer survivors who otherwise cannot pay their bills to get an equal jump-start to real independence!

The SamFund organization was able to help me with residual medical bills. They provided me a grant, but what really helped was the expertise of their staff. They managed to help make every dollar of my grant count.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My recent grant of residual medical bills.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not do as good of a job as them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoyed the interaction witht the staff.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Extreamly friendly and proffesional.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help young adults take the next step to the recovery of cancer. To get their life back, and move forward.

Ways to make it better...

I had a little more money for my medical bills.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the number of cancer survivors and the limited amount of funds available.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Treatment for cancer is very scary. However once you get past that part it helps when you have a friend such as SamFund on the other side to help get your life back.

The SAMFund has been my rock as I struggled to find funding after remission. There are very few organizations devoted solely to young adults even though young adults have seen little to no improvements in survivor rates. The SAMFund offers all areas of funding to help ease the mind and lift the burdens for cancer survivors such as myself. This group has given me more than funding they have given me the faith that there are people out there that see that cancer truly affects all ranges of people regardless of age.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my life through the assistance to continue seeing my doctor as well as aid in my tuition when I maxed out my student loans this year.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being able to spread the word about such a wonderful organization to other young adult survivors who feel that they are being excluded from many funding options.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

amazingly kind and understanding.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help more young adults with the necessities of their life in this awful economy. The rent payment or medical bill coverage can be a life saver and should be available to more people.

The SAMFund has helped me tremendously with my attempt to move forward after surviving cancer as a young adult. This is one of the very few organizations I have found to help reenter life after fighting for my life. I was a 32 year old single working mother whose life came to a screeching stop when I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I was very lucky. With very aggressive treatment I was able to put my cancer in remission. Unfortunately cancer doesn't stop the bills from piling up. I still had to support myself and my child. I paid all of the necessities, however, I had to deplete my savings, 401K and even ask family and friends for help. I was able to maintain my residence and go back to work but even 2 1/2 years later, it is very difficult. I am very proud of everything I've been through and overcome. The SAMFund has helped me so much get back on my feet. After applying for a grant from the SAMFund late last year, I was able to breathe a bit better financially when they called to inform me I was approved. There are so many great organizations out there to help others in need but for me, I will do what I can to spread the word to my fellow cancer survivors about the SAMFund to help them raise money and awareness.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

this organization was targeted to my age group. With such a long life ahead of me, I can transition much easier into a normal life.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so excited to help me and others.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help so many other young adults move forward after fighting cancer.

The SAMFund is a wonderful organization because it helps young adult survivors in such a practical way. After my cancer experience, I decided to become and oncologist. SAMFund helped me with the cost of applying to medical school, which was such a great relief! I start medical school in less than a month. Thanks again SAMFund!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my own life because it decreased the cost of applying to medical school.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how practical it is.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

really change the lives of young adult cancer survivors by helping us become less burdened financially!
