The Preston Bradley Center is an historic building in Uptown Chicago, home to the Peoples Church of Chicago and to the 2 Li'l Fishes free lunch program. The building also hosts several other nonprofits, and has a beautiful sanctuary available for community events, weddings, concerts. This building is a center for helping the poor in this neighborhood - it houses a shelter, and 2 Li'l Fishes serves a hot meal to hundreds of people each week. Recently I welcomed a high school class who came to cook and serve one of our meals. They did a bang-up job, serving marinated steak, asparagus, Waldorf salad, and garlic potatoes. Within the past year the sanctuary also hosted a memorial service for a youth who lost his life in a shooting nearby, with many community organizations represented at that service.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
its direct impact on people in the neighborhood - poor and otherwise - treating people with dignity and building community among neighbors.
