The Patient Institute empowers patients and caregivers to navigate the healthcare system. Their free educational programs are very informative. I use their Preparing For Your Doctor's Appointment Form before seeing my doctors.

The Patient Institute is all about the patient. Its mission is to empower patients and their caregivers to more successfully navigate the healthcare system. They also offer free educational programs to patients and caregivers on topics related to the healthcare system navigation throughout the Bexar County community.

Patient Institute not only helps patients better navigate the sometimes confusing routes to physician access and clarifies how to obtain insurance benefits to which insureds are entitled, but has now broadened its efforts to include physicians and medical students in the information sharing process. Patient Institute continues to intensify its outreach programs through the development of innovative
communications tools to expand the number of patients and physicians who receive the information
it provides.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

increase a limited funding base so grant writing efforts could be expanded

The Patient Institute educates and empowers not just the patient but all those that are effected by the patient and his or her life. The "PI" helps and guides family members, health professional and their community as a whole. The issues the Patient Institute are addressing today will hopefully make a better tomorrow for all of us.

The mission is worthy and very timely with the advent of so many options, rules and procedures in seeking medical care. As a board member, I am witnessing first hand the dynamic qualities and efficiency of the executive officers and staff of the Patient Institute, and most important, I am witnessing the results of this non-profit. The Patient Institute is directly helping people navigate the health care system!!!!! I am proud to serve for the Patient Institute.

I've worked in the medical field for 26 years as an office manager for Dr. Irving A. Ratner, Pediatric Surgeon. What a privilege that was to work for such a respected, great physician. Since his passing, The Patient Institute was founded in his memory. He was the first Pediatric Surgeon to practice in South Texas and I will always admire the love and dedication he had for his hard work and always putting the patient first. Over the years, I have learned so much about the difficulties patients and their families face with the healthcare system. The Patient Institute is an excellent resource in guiding patients and their families through the healthcare system.

The Patient Institute's mission of empowering patients and their caregivers to successfully navigate the healthcare system is very much needed. This nonprofit public charity educates patients and their caregivers on just this through programs throughout the community. It also develops tools that allow patients to navigate the healthcare system with more ease. From the professional caregiver side, The Patient Institute provides scholarships to students in the healthcare professions who have demonstrated an interest in empowering patients. This organization is continually looking for new ways to achieve its mission and increase its impact on this community, in which each and every one of us finds ourselves.
